Installing HL2/Steam without a net connection?

Well I have decided to reinstall HL2 on my comp but I don't have a net connection on it to download everything. My question is if I took a laptop to a wifi spot when I pull into Hawaii and get everything could I just do the initial instal then copy everything over from the laptop?

Yes that should work. Once you've copied it to your other machine, delete the file 'clientregistry.blob'. It will still need a net connection to verify your steam files once you've moved it to the new computer tho (takes about 30 seconds).

That's the crappy part. I can't get a net connection on my desktop till the end of July There is no way that I am going to carry my whole rig off the ship and try to find a hotspot. I guess I'm just SOL till then

try running your desktop hdd on your laptop while you take it to the hotspot, then you can verify it while ur there.

Hmmmm. What exactly is it verifying? Would I have to boot off the hard drive?

Verifying is basicly steam checking all you files are legit/intact AFAIK.

I should imagine you would have to boot off the hard drive.

Off topic but do you have your main rig on the boat with you?
