installing a waterblock to a R9 290

Permafrost

Compo Whore
hi guys, i'm still a bit of a noob to watercooling and never watercooled a GPU

i'm buying a R9 290 and waterblock+backplate

does anyone recommend a guide?

also if anyone here is from London and would be awesome enough to show me in return for a few beers or something that would be awesome

thanks guys!

Tom has a guide on YT where he installed a block on a GTX680, obviously a different card, but it's the exact same principle. It's the guide I used when watercooling my GTX580s for the first time :) The instructions that come with the block are also very useful for telling you where to put the thermal pads and things.

awesome!

i forgot tom did a guide ages ago...

thanks Remmy!

it's a fairly new card, i don't know if there is any good specific videos for it but here is one from good old TTL for a Titan block.

The basics are pretty much the same for every waterblock, just different placement of thermal tape really.

like just showing white... :P

yep i can see it now thanks!
is it really that simple?

Pretty much, I noticed with that block he didn't put thermal pads on the VRMs. Usually you have to put thermal pads on as seen in Tom's vid.

But yeah, it's basically as simple as that :)

ok cool, it would be nice if some one showed who lived in london

also do people here ever meet up?

Here's a more complete guide, the other vid and this one covers everything exactly where everything needs to go, only difference being the block itself.

Not that I've ever known, but actually sounds like it would be cool. All the OC3D members go out for a meal and some beers or something :D

yeah it would be cool and get a team photo for the record too...

just watched toms video fitting a waterblock and backplate to the titan

just thinking why don't people put the pad on the block it's self??

If I understand what you mean correctly, then I'd say it's because it's much easier to see where the thermal pads go when you place them onto the components rather than on the block.

oh right and yeah iwas talking about the thermal pads that go on the vram and other parts

i'm not sure if it's worth waiting and seeing if asus to fit a poseidon cooler on a r9 290 and if it's as good as they claim it is...

I love the idea of the Poseidon cooler, it may be a while before we see it on another card though :(.

I would really like to see it on a R9 290 series card.
