So earlier this month I grabbed two GTX 780's and I run them at 7680x1600 in Surround mode. This is probably the largest surround mode you can do currently from NVIDIA before bezel compensation so I thought it would be a good idea to report how it works.
When I was thinking about upgrading I was contemplating getting two Titans instead because of the 6GB of graphics memory and on many site forums including Reddit I saw people being advised to go dual Titans when using 24" Surround (5760x1200) let alone 30" surround like I am.
But I decided to not overspend and instead get the GTX 780's and my thinking was if the VRAM wasn't enough I could just return them and purchase Titans.
Well the good news was the GTX 780's work fine. I can fully max out Battlefield 3, World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2 at 7680x1600 without issue and in all of those titles the AA and AF is set to the maximum as-well as every other setting available, the FPS is 60 or above.
In Crysis 3 which is a very graphically demanding title I can still run it on highest settings in Surround but AA and AF has to be set quite low to maintain 45-50 FPS at 7680x1600.
To do my informal testing I ran my entire system at stock. The 780's I'm using are the reference NVIDIA design with stock GTX 780 (Titan appearance) coolers.
I hope this information can help someone as I know from my own experience how difficult it can be to choose GPU's for a resolution this large, if you are using a Triple 24" 27" or 30" setup two GTX 780's will run perfectly for you.
Here are some other older titles I tried which also work completely maxed out at this res including with AA/AF @ 7680x1600 with smooth 60 FPS:
Team Fortress 2, Minecraft with intense Shaders, Trials Evolution, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Grand Theft Auto IV (Which at fully maxed everything only used 1.48GB of VRAM).
Hope this was helpful to you guys and those who will no doubt find this thread via Google
