In case anyone has the spare cash...

Just incase people hadn't noticed but Overclockers.co.uk are getting in some stock of the Asus ARΣS IF you're able ot withstand the monstrous £1200 price tag that accompanies it!

Safe to say I won't be getting one then!

I know its very impressive to say that you have two 5870s in one card, but realistically with a waterblock a standard 5970 can easily be clocked to those levels. Even with a pump, block, rad and fans I reckon it would still be cheaper than one of these bad boys.

Hmm. Tis all well and good making things like this but advertising them for sale before any tech data? I mean, no one even knows how they compare with an actual pair of actual 5870s which cost hundreds less.

I know they are super desirable and they are gorgeous, but GPUs seldom ever appreciate in value. And when this thing gets old and slow (as it will) then it'll be worth pennies.

Well, for about 20 years, then maybe you would claw back what you paid for it if you were lucky (and Asus went out of business).

I mean sheesh, you could buy a pair of 5970s for that.

Actually thinking about it fair play to Asus. I mean, there's not a lot of chance they will actually end up making lots of money out of this, just providing something killer for the masses.

Kind of like limited run cars. The money gone into R&D and so on is seldom even made back. I don't even know if Microsoft have covered the dev costs for the 360 yet in hardware sales alone. They're coining it from licensing fees for developers to release games, though.

And I suppose if you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket... :D

i thinik they just make cards like this to say 'HA we can' just as a 'mine is bigger than ures' type thing

the fact you can buy one is jusy a billy bonus.

its much like the buggati it costs 1mil but costs nearly triple to make, they just did it to say yes its possable and we have done it

not gna lie if i had the cash i would have one as i am shure alot of you would forget facts, its a monster it looks like a monster there is no doubt it would kill games.

Can and did, and would have enough change to buy a 930 on top. Stupid money for GPUs, and I say that having gone for stupidly expensive chips already.

Some people will still pre-order one. They're a business trying to make money, if it were my business I'd do the same.

As I've been saying, it's a bleeding-edge piece of hardware designed more to promote ASUS and establish them as market leaders in this sector rather than a money making product. The effects of this do filter down and I think it improves sales of all their high end cards. As someone said, it's almost like a concept car that you can buy.

I remain unconvinced. The owners of bleeding edge hardware are the ones who have to take the most rubbish in terms of flaky drivers and non cooperative bits of software bodged together. I feel sorry for anyone who does buy this, as they will have a £1200 graphics chip which is entirely reliant on a company whose driver developers seem to be staffed by howler monkeys.

Incidentally, my ATI drivers have been playing up all night.

Some one said the other day "I hope this is better than the 295 MARS"

Well, I went off to read about the MARS. I actually feel terribly sorry for the people who bought that. What a terrible card that was !

To be honest, if I was ridiculously rich I would probably buy one, just cause I could. As it stands though, thats around a months salary for me and I'd much rather be saving towards a car lol. They will sell though, the MARS bars did. Its just people with money to burn who just want the biggest, flashiest most expensive thing they can get, I'd bet most of them know sod all about computers as well haha :p

We would all have one if we could afford it :D I mean, we would all drive Veyrons too if it was within our grasp :D

Haha there's a thought. The entire population ripping around in 1000+ BHP cars :D
