I'm in a pickle

Well firstly X800s are SM2 cards. Not SM3. The Core clock on the 7900 is 450, over your 400. And the ram is GDDR3, meaning its going to be rated at least 1.5Ghz.

On top of that for some reason Nvidas cards are generaly faster in the FPS sence. I suspect arcitecture (sp?) of the chip itself combined with drivers that actualy WORK.

For example a 6800 clocked at 325/700. 8 pipes & 5 shaders its faster than an X1600 clocked at 500/800 with 12 pipes and 5 shaders

Yes, which is faster?

The difference between graphics card memory/core mhz is exactly the same kind of thing as the difference between AMD and Intel mhz speeds. It means nothing.

The cores on the latest graphics cards are far more efficient and have more capabilities than older cards and thus MHZ speeds can't be compared between cores.

The 7900GT will make your X800GTO look like onboard graphics ;)

Haha, I've heard that the 7800's are still better than alot of 7900's EXCEPT for the XFX 7900GTX which is like 2.9 million dollars.

I'm still getting a XFX 7600GT though.

What's so special about the thermoelectric cpu coolers that they have to make them so expensive for?

The 7600GT will be great for you mate.

As for the thermoelectirc coolers i wouldn't bother tbh... The stick HSF does the job normaly. And if you don't want that arctic coolers are the best:).

I used to run an x800 awhile back then moved to a 6800 Ultra. The difference is amazing. I'm sure going to a 7600 will be even more of a difference.
