Netgear dg834g to test my line. Points out my speedtouch was giving me crap line stats

First off i wanna say very nicely done idnet on LENDING me a brand new router.

Now i want to know if I should buy this off them or take the plunge for a bit more on a draytek vigor 2800g (off ebay ofc). I understand the vigor is just pure 1337 but will i use all that stuff?

I like the idea of extra security but dont like the idea of potentially harder to setup. This netgear gives me "low" signal strength in my bedroom which isnt too good but seems to give a good strength wired.

Is the draytek that harder to setup and will i find a use for its sh1teloads of features?

Im what you'd call an everyday user on steroids - not quite power user but as i progress through my network course in college i may find a use for features?

Meh the drayteks aren't that hard to setup. I got one as I like the extra control it gives over...well, everything

UPnP implementation on the Draytek is pretty damn awesome too

Good wireless and fairly easy to learn config interface?

Im sure extra settings will be useful especially when i have buddies over for a lan and i can disable their illegal bandwidth hogging downloading what-nots

Wireless is damn good, serves my Wii, PS3, PDA and laptop very well. Excellent security features and sweet QoS too

I have a Netgear DG834G and have never had any trouble with it. It manages to hang on even at low SNR ratings and serves my laptop with wireless very well enabling me to sit down the bottom of the garden and still receive a 70% signal.

Ive the same router, have a zyxel 660 in my car. Might give that a try. I go to use my current router somedays and it isnt on. I have to unplug the power and plug it back in.

You on ADSL max? ifso its meant to disconnect from time to time. It does this to try and find the highest sync speed to the exchange.

I thought it was only supposed to lose sync once your line stats or something loses connection, it then resyncs at better rate for your line to prevent it dropping again?

Anyhoo im getting idnet to look at my new line stats and see if a different router has helped my line stats. Also if this router would be worth getting as the draytek is a bit pricey if im only getting it for speed/reliability rather than taking advantage of features which i would never use (correct me if im wrong). The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that would be useful would be the QOS.

Doesnt seem to have enough features whereas the draytek has too many lol. Need something inbetween with performance and the most likely to use features of the draytek but with a price around £50-£60

I should be trying ADSL Maxpremium soon too (already on max)
