Ideas for my first build

I'm thinking about building my first computer 100% from scratch, I have a budget between $2000 and $3000 Australian. I want to build this computer all out so it will last for at lease 4 years. I will try to attached my current idea of this build. It will be used for general use, vmware, video encoding(all legal of cause) and i want to be able to game in native 2560 x1440. I will appreciate some inputs / ideas for this build but I definitely want to stick to Nvidia.

Looks really nice but drop to a ax650 psu, 1200w is crazy overkill and do you really need 2011 (how much video encoding are you doing)?

Yeah, that's a bit overkill. I'd suggest getting some parts replaced, and save up for a 7990 or if not get the 7970 instead of the 670. And if you're gonna do some overclocking on that 3930k i'd recommend the H100i, it has a bigger rad therefore, better performance.

Gotta agree with MadMarc you dont need a 1200 a 650-750 will do it and put the extra to something else eg h100i or put towards the rampage 4 which is the best board for 2011. The rest sounds great.

I'm not sure if you can mount a h100 in the ft02, it's got 3 180mm fan at the bottom and a single 120mm at the top

He could get a Corsair case. I am pretty sure he can find a cheaper, big enough, good looking, functional case that can hold that rad. Lots of them out there.

over watted only need 650 for single (750 dual) GPU and
under RAMmed in speed/capacity.. VM needs RAM, coding needs speed/capacity.
if your video softy doesnt leverage the 6-core (not all do), then your wasting
energy on 2011.

i wouldnt waste cooling cash on the H80 over a high-end air cooler (NH-D14 ,14TC)
if you have to have liquid, the dual 120/140 solution has 13°+ better control over
the single thin/thick 120mm radiator. but your case wont allow such, so the D14 or
Phanteks would be better.

unless you are coding 2-4hr feature 1080 with after effects and photoshop, the
LGA 1155 3770k platform will suffice nicely. yeah, you loose some SATA ports
but $800 gained in budget. and possibly better gaming (depending on titles).

Yeah i had no idea about PSU so i just chucked it in, thanks for the info regarding what wattage I should be using.

I am set on the FT02, this build is also meant to be a very clean and ascetic(blue is the colour) build so a h100(i) is out of the question.

I dont understand why 32gb of ram would be short to run my vm's even if i run them on 8gb each i should have plenty of ram to spare.

Do the ATI cards really out preform the Nvidia buy that much?(not wanting to start an argument) because i have had unfavorable experiences with ATI in the past.

I think the 7970 is the equivalent of the 680 at the price of the 670. It is better, and if I were in your shoes it would be my choice.

The ati cards atm are epic the 7970 for the price of a 670 will kick its ass i have 2 friends in my clan using them and they are absolute beasts in almost every game and the latest driver set for them is epic
P.S the h100i was an eg of what the extra money could be spent on

That's a bit of an exaggeration. AMD's price cuts just made it a bit interesting, hence why I'm going for a 7950 as opposed to an nvidia card personally.


Anyways, advice on the build:

-Switch that PSU for an AX760 or AX750.
-Go for a 7970
-You could swap the FT02 for a Corsair 650D. The 650D has the same type of feel to it as the FT02, very clean and professional looking.
-With the 650D, you could throw in an H100i, which is far ahead of the H80i. You can change the color of the LED in the H100i, too . (The H80i seems useless to me. It is outperformed by cheaper air coolers (NH-D14) but is only slightly less expensive than the H100i.)

In ways, yes.

AMD beats nVidia in price/performance ratio, but AMD's drivers are no where as good as nVidias.
