i'm going to use it for mostly gaming, but also for video encoding and try my hand at overclocking.

Then it will run fine but maybe the only real downside would be the graphics card

yeah i went over that for ages my current pc, an off the shelf job, has a 550ti that i put in and that ran skyrim on high till it went up the spout

Well, personally I'd have invested in a better graphics card, but you'll always have that option later.

yeah that's what i was thinking, coz i want to set up a 3 screen display at a later date when i'm settled and i thought theres not point getting a top end card at the moment, thie sapphire should run BF3 and skyrim at high / playable levels and thats all i need for now.

BF3 at high? What resolution are you running then? Cuz my GTX470 only just managed to run BF3 at high (1080p) and it's a bit faster than a 6850.. especially in large multiplayer maps it was struggling. Could've been my CPU though, although I don't think that was the case.

according to the review it'll do that at 1080p on a 1900 x 1600 but we'll have to wait and see
