Hi Guys IM new here. been surfing around on this forum, decided to join, very friendly and site laid back site, my first question is below, im basically just sooooooo aggravated.. i can get to 4.2 Ghz and thats it nothing but BSOD'S soon as i click to run prime 95 i mean 30 secs into it BSOD.

i have a rampage lll formula mobo and windows 7 ultimate and i7-970 processor . 12 gb memory 1600 MHz.water cooling setup, 1200 watt corsair PowerSupply.ATI adeon 5900 GDDR5 video card.x2 80gb intel x-25 SSD raid 0 setup.

is it my memory timings i need to change?

they are 3x4 GB 12 GB g.skill ripjaws 1600 MHZ

my current timings are.

9-9-9-24-2N-1.50V <-- says this in CPU-Z under memory section.

.also my dram frequency is 1367 MHZ. not 1700+ or whatever it was, when it was at 1600 i went a notch down to 1300 cause my computer would never boot up with anything over 1600 MHz .also my max temps i even seen was 74C at 100 % load for around an hour. normally i see 68-70C full load @ 4.2 with water cooling, but my room temp is 78F or 25C. i do now have a new location in room my a floor ac vent about 2 ft. away and it has lowered the temps very slightly 1 notch to 66-69C i have peaked @ 72C though. i have an NZXT Phantom full tower Case.

--------------------------THIS IN BIOS-------------------------

current setup @ 4214.6 GHz

im running now 25x168

core 1.360

cpll 1.81

qpi 1.257

dram bus 1.64

this is all in the dram timing control

also all these settings have Auto out beside them

and the memory configuration protect is disabled.

also i tried 21x200 dram = 1604 MHz, would not boot back up, had to restart cutting power off and said overclocking failed!..

anything over 1603MHZ wont boot up ...

Please can somebody shine some light onto a good setting to try.

i also tried 25x170 .. the multi is 25 and only way to keep my memory frequency below 1600.. anything over that and it wont start back up after saving settings in bios. i have to cut off CPU completely then restart after 5 seconds and go in and adjust it back to under 1600 MHz..

Right dude you need to find out what your stock ram timings are, try 9-9-9-24 for starters.

Youll need to set the multi to 16 to START with and try and get the BCLK to 200 (work your way up) once its at 200 select the ram so its running at 1600

Set the Vcore to 1.25v that will be plenty, set the ram to 1.66v and the QPI to 1.3v.

Once its 100% stable you can then notch the multiplier up, once you get past 19 on the multi it may need more volts but it should do 200x20 with 1600 ram at roughly the settings Ive given you.

REMEMBER all cpus and configs are different so it may need tweaking. Stable is what you are looking for and overclocking is about finding the best config for you, that also means working out the lowest volts and best mix of overclocking and temperatures.

If you dont have an aftermarket aircooler then buy one before you even start. Heat will kill your rig.
