hi i just starting to get into overclocking my i7 950 cpu and below are the settings i am using specs of my pc can be found at the end i just wanted to know that in cpuz i am getting core voltage readings of 1.366v and just wanted to know if this was a safe voltage for this OC the Core speed cpuz is showing is 3718.3 Mhz also are my setting right. I have ran prime95 so far for about 1 hour and higest temp i am getting is 83oc

I have exactly the same setup as yours. I have disabled the Turbo and speedstep. That Vcore at 1.34V is very high for 3.7 Ghz OC. I would say Disable the Turbo and manually put all the values. If you disable H/T, you can shave some 10*c from your core temps.

DONT disable HT for the love of god. The 950 isnt a hot chip you just need to set it up correctly. Most will do 4ghz 200x20 at 1.25v or below. You just have to set it up properly.

DONT disable HT thats taking away the hyperthreading and means it only has 4 threads rather than 8.

Your temps are high because your Vcore is high, what CPU cooler do you have?

I am not sure about the cooling set up of the other poster but for me to run this Chip at 4 Ghz with H/T, it was pushing Core Temps to 80*c- 87*c in Prime95, and CPUTIN temps at 76*c. For some it may be within acceptable limits but i want it to run little cooler then that. I do not have the water block but running on AIR with Noctua NHp-12( should have gone with NHd-14). I had to lower the OC to 3.8 Ghz so that i can have HYPER THREADING ENABLED. Max temps i have seen on IBT is 74*c and CPUTIN at 63*c. Vcore is 1.2850 and Vtt 1.3v.Dram at 1.65. Memory running at 1605 MHz.

I am not sure if with my setup, i can run this chip at 4 Ghz with Hyper Threading enabled.

ASUS SABER TOOTH X58

CORSAIR 6GB XPM3 2000MHz

haaangg onn so my 950 does 4ghz at 1.28 volts is that relativly high? but it does 4.2 at 1.30v i have ht enabled and everything, my max temp is 56 degrees and idle is 36 Im a alright? or do I also have to go back to the drawing board?

Have you tried to run any stability test on that setup? Run Prime 95 for maybe 4/5 hours and Intel Burn Test at maximum for maybe 1 hour. Then check your temps ( Core and CPU). I can hit 4 Ghz at Vcore 1.28 with H/t enabled, but Prime95 will push the temps into high 80*c. Let us know how it goes.

i did a 9 hours prime test with my 950 at 1.28v it was fine

but then i tried 1.26v prime for 3 hours then its it didnt like it the 4.2 ghz @ 1.30 volts went fine for 6 hours straight, I want to try and lower the volts on the 950 but I think my temps are pretty good, for 4.2ghz I got a max temp 0f 61 degrees, however ever since I got my pc back from the rebuilders i cant play my nfs undercover even with my 580s!! the lines are jaggared and it just doesnt appear to what i expected (unless some of my settings are worng?)have you tried 4.4ghz? cheers

I have a cooler master 212 plus i have been playing around with the settings again and got to 3.8ghz at 1.27v stable but once i go to 4ghz 200BLK with 20X at the same volts it boots up fine and it runs intel burn test fine but once i put on prime 95 it lasts 5 mins then BSOD. Does anyone think it could be the RAM as most overcloking guides i have read say that you should have 1600mhz ram or above whereas mines is 1333mhz?

Thanks

the only reason why my temps are low is because of the noctua, once I have everything fixed im gonna see if i can try and lapp my cpu to bring the temps down

Well i have Noctua too but not NHD-14.

. I have NHP-12. It sort of struggles at 4 Ghz and 1600 MHzs mem with Hyper Threading ON. Temps go to mid 80's on the core and CPU stays at 71'c

Lapping will void your warranty so I wouldn't recommend it unless of course you're prepared to whack out another 200 quid for a cpu if you screw it up. You also have BIOS settings not available to me hmm

No matey, no lapping for me. I have seen people getting to 4.5 Ghz without it. I just need to look at some other alternative. I know i can get the temps under control if i move to NHD-14 with at least

4.2 Ghz OC.
