i5 3570k @4.0Ghz PSU Question

Hey, everyone.

Looking at changing my FX-4130 to a 3570k and I'm looking for a safe OC of 4Ghz. However, my current rig is powered by a Corsair 550w PSU. My question is this: Will the PSU be sufficient for that OC with a GTX 660?

Sorry, but my knowledge of PSU and the overall power required for a build is limited at best. I know the GTX660 requires 430w+ and that's as much as I know, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

yes ofc.

with a higher end psu you can do this

I'm used to having a silent PSU, my Super Flower Golden King 550W never turned it's fan on other than in really hot and very high power draw situations. Example: I had two 18W pumps, two GTX680's overclocked and Folding and a 3770K at 4.6GHz Folding, four HDD, one SSD, a ton of fans, loads of LEDs ect. Even then the fan wasn't on all the time, it'd turn off after a while and cycle like that. Apart from that it was never on and hasn't been on in months.

while your 550w would work with overclocked 3570k and sli 660's i would recommend a 600-650w.
i find it nice to have more wattage to play around with, just incase especially with overclocked cpus and gpus.

but as it stands atm a 550w will more than suffice, i believe the 3570k will use less power than your fx4130 even while overclocked.

Most 3570k's will do 4.3-4.4Ghz at volts that a hyper 212 can handle, can't they..?
No point selling yourself short and only going for 4.0, push those clocks mate, don't be scared :P

As to the PSU, you'll be utterly fine :)
I've seen a mate run a 8120 and a 7950 on a CX430 for two years with no problems... Obviously that's stupid, but I'm just putting it into perspective :P

You'll be fine :)

a 4.0ghz overclock on most 3570k chips could do it on stock volts using less than 95w hell i can get 4.2ghz on mine @1.010v stock it sits at 0.985v when it turbos to 3.8ghz it goes to 1.010... i have a 7950 gpu currently overclocked and my cpu is currently overclocked to 4.5ghz and i barly draw 300w from the wall at full load...with 4hdds 1 ssd and a blueray drive also plugged in...

i would say your psu is overkill.... for what you want tbh you would get away with a 450w...
