Hi, First of all I must thank tinytomlogan for inspiring my new build.

I just did the following build. Nothing special I know but it was he first one for me and I was pretty exited :D

i5 3330 (ivy) stock cooler
GA-Z77 -D3H
Corsair vengeance 2x4Gb
Gigabyte gtx 660 non -ti (factory overclocked)
Silverstone 750PSU
Asus 24" monitor
Coolermaster 431 case

Everything went pretty smooth. And build runs fine.

I was wondering if I could overclock my i5 3330 from 3.0 stock to 3.4? any help ?

sorry to say, but that processor is not unlocked.
only the "K" and "X" prefixed parts (3570K, 3770K, 3960x) are able to overclock.
you can overdrive your processor a fractional bit. by increasing the bus clock
from 100 to X depending on RAM and GPU. increasing the bus speed affects those
items and can cause instability more so than CPU instability.
but for multiplier change, not that version. only BLCK bus can be altered and only a bit.

i know it is not the unlocked version but I thought that it could be clocked a bit higher.. I read the multiplier can be adjusted till 3.4 or 3.6 im not 100% sure thats why im asking.

Yeah, I thought the locked CPUs were only locked at around x36 or something?

Look in your BIOS for multiplier and see if you can change it at all

yes just a quick question before i do that.. will it automatically change the volts for the cpu and make them higher. ?

No it won't change the volts.

But, I know most unlocked Ivybridge processors can reach around 4.0-4.2ghz without adjusting the voltage at all, so you may be alright going to 3.6ghz.

Try it, and stress test with Prime95 or Intel Burn Test. If you have any instability, then you can manually up the voltage, but hopefully, you'll be alright without.

I know it's small OC (if you can do it) but keep an eye on temps as you're running the stock cooler.

OK from the bios the max i could set it to was 3.4g.. I set it to that but when i enter windows aand run spuz it still shows i5 3330 @ 3.0 .. :s

Also what max temps should i look out for? thanks

The 3.4ghz will be turbo.
When you run Prime95 it should go up to 3.4ghz.

Are you looking at that on CPU-z or Windows btw? It needs to be CPU-z really.

And temps should be fine tbh, since you aren't increasing voltages. Try to stay below 70 C under load though, although a little more is fine really.

many thanks for the sound info mate :) i will try prime 95. Also should i stress test it for some hours or not ?

btw was watching on cpu z

ok thankx for the info :) really helpful.. I just started intel burn test on maximum. any idea how long does it takes for 10 runs ;p. Also should I be worried I cannot see the cpu temp while im running this test..

Errm how do you mean you can't see it?
It should be in HWmonitor?
Screenshot maybe?

It normally takes about 20mins - obviously depends on your CPU though.

i can see my vcore going up. its currently at 1.116v at stage 5. i do not have HWMonitor installed -_-

i also can see that my core speed is 3403.38Mhz that means its at 3.4 :)

Install HWMonitor.

Also try to refrain from making consecutive posts by using the edit button :)
