i5-2500 vs i5-2500K

Is it really worth getting the K version when I'm not ever going to overclock? When both are at stock rates, is there any performance difference? Or should I just get the K version anyway?

The K looks like its only about 12 dollars more, and you get a better Integrated Graphics Processor. And maybe that unlocked multiplier will save you some money down the road, instead of buying a new cpu you can just overclock the one you have.

up to you though of course.

"12" HA add $90+ for a cpu cooler

True you will need a good cpu cooler, But after you buy a good one, you'll always have it. Good investments are things you can always reuse.

Sure beats spending 300 bucks a year from now for a new cpu.

with K CPU's you can run it at max speed by setting the CPU ratio to maximum in the BIOS(it works like that for 1st gen Core i5/i7 so i guess it's the same, dunno though). K CPU's are also useful for low-mid range motherboards that dont overclock to extremes because you can get the same cpu frequency with max multiplier and little overclock as with the non-K version at a lower multiplier with a big overclock.

I have a locked i5 750. it's in a good motherboard and the turbo works well. Before it was in a low/mid range board and the turbo wasn't nearly as effecient. turbo was almost not a factor.

I did have the option to make it run in turbo mode by changing the Ratio.

It's worth the extra for performance tweeking and future-proofness.

the ability to jam the CPU ratio at max will set the CPU at max turbo frequency/speed, helpful on a low/mid range motherboard

I aint got a K CPU so i don't gaurantee this info, i learn't it on the net and Micro Mart magazine

You cant overclock the CPU on H boards.

h = gpu overclocking (internal cpu gpu)

p = cpu overclocking but no access to igpu
