I-RAM losing data & not BOOTing

stocky

I installed XP on the i-RAM, and had it all running fine including re-booting etc...

However, this morning when I try to get into Windows I get the 'Please Insert Correct BOOT disk/ media' type message :(

I have re-checked the BIOS, but I'm assuming this is because the i-RAM has lost its data :(

I assumed that the 'Standby' and onboard battery stops this from happening :?

Any ideas on this one?

Battery dot last too long stocky mate - how long u had it switdched off for?

iirc in optimum conditions I-Ram last 14hours without power.

I would suggest some sort of PSU bypass just for I-Ram.

Only had it off for a few seconds when recovering from crashes...

I think I'll have to test this battery.

Battery doesnt last 14 hours. Have talked to Gigabyte about it... it`ll last 14 hours "under optimum condition" but they wouldnt tell me how much RAM was installed for that. Definately less than 4GB..I guarantee its battery lasts less than 14 hours though with 4GB.

The PCI slot is only for power. You could try the I-RAM as a free card and build a custom power adapter using a dead PCI slot hooked up to a cheap PSU, and leave the PSU on...with the necessary dummy loads for the 12V rail, possibly also the 5V rail. A lot of work, I know.

Good luck

hmmm, battery power is on full - you can check by pressing the little red button, and it is reading just over spec voltage on the DVM.

It just happened again :(

I re-installed XP and all drivers, then restarted after flashing the BIOS and it's lost it all! :O

Could this just be due to the BIOS flash? If it could be I'll re-install again, otherwise I'll fling it out the window and hope it hits some random student below :p

Random thought.... this might sound really really dumb, but have Gigabyte done the PCB properly...is the battery actually hooked up?

sorry your having problems stocky i must say i used it and found it did not drop

right away have you left it on charge in the slot with the computer runing for 24 hours before you try and hold data

also as a test just put a file on it and have it as a d drive and see if it loses data

I had that issue when using one before, no idea what caused it but didn't sit around to find out, just plugged the RAID array back in and installed that.

Boardy

I have re-installed it and it may well be okay now! I don't dare turn it off at the plug though!!

I hope it was just the BIOS flash that caused it before. Anyway, time will tell! :)

is there a jumper on the m/b that will alow 5v to pci slot when in stand by so the iram will stay charged?

I'm not sure, but I think it must be worth looking into. I don't think it is a charging issue though, because the battery remains full :(

I think I must be like a monkey - I just keep re-installing XP each time! 8)

It was just the bloomin S-ATA cable I was using. I swapped it and haven't had a problem since 8)

ah that old chestnut! I've had the dodgy sata cable syndrome before - it's about time they made the connection better!
