ionicle

New member
...at mcdonalds

i applied once before, got called in for an interview and got rejected

this time round, i've been called in for an interview again, about a year later

any advice? :)

in the email they sent me its recomended you wear black trouses and black shoes, so shoezone and tesco soon sorted that, both for 12 quid, woop!

but any advice in general?

i have had two people who i know, who work there, to put in a good word for me...so...

hmm...

any advice in general?

i've previously applied for:

morrisons, tesco, curries, farmfoods, aldi, motorworld, blockbusters, woolworths, 3 pubs, two corner shops, game, argos, a photo shop, wetherspoons, a local pc shop, iceland, heron, summerfield, boyes, boots, shoezone, and some others, but none of them even got back to me

So annoying when they say they will get back to you and then you see that they don't

yes, yes it is, as any of them would be better than mcdonalds

i've noticed to get a job you need experience, and to get exprerience, you need to have had a job

its an endless, pointless, unemployment cycle..

even the expance hotel, who hires and fires atleast like 20 people a week, refused to employ me..

well

didnt refuse, just never got back to me, which is almost worse..

just be yourself. listen to what they said, ask questions and do some research into the company before you go to the interview.

Aye its a catch 22 with the job front. But once you are in, its easier.

Man I remember applying to places like that in college lol.

Anyway, its a simple job with a lot of customer interaction; just be smiley and happy, polite, and just relax.

If you have any customer relations experience highlight that. Read about WacRonalds, show a bit of knowledge, 'why do you want to work here/for us' 'what can you bring to the team' are common q's.

Google interview techniques if you need more, I doubt you will.

"why do you wanna work here, for us" ...would be money :p

but in all seriousness, the answer i was thinking of giving was that, ...um....good point...crap...i dont know ...er...help?! lol

do some reaserch, like what?...

...i've got the clothes i need for the interview and OJE...

Company history, what they sell/do.

Its all helpful, if you have mates who work there, they can tell you about other members of staff are like.

Most important thing is, imho, ask them what the company can do for you.

If you want experience you could always go to any big retail shop asking for the duty manager or manager and ask them if they have any place for volantary work placement, like 3 to 4 weeks, and then they should like hire you after that if you do a good job.

Well I did that with my local PC World store and they said that they would get back to me on the coming Wednesday about a few months ago and guess what? They didn't. I left my CV with them which they said was quite impressive, but I guess that didn't come in handy.

hmm, like qualifications etc?

Well yeah, but also where will you be in the company in the next 5 years, thats if you stay that long, employers like it when they think you are in it for the long run.

i intend to dress to their rules lol

the ones given..

reaserching the company...but what specifically?!

i intend to be polite, i usually am anyway..

and enthusiasm, they are offering money, ofcorse i'm enthusiastic :D

Well yes I meant dress nicely in the interview if you get one

Just research a bit about what Maccie D's is interested in at the moment (I suspect it's their healthy range of foods) and generally check out their website and stuff. Start a sentence "I noticed on your website there are some new dishes...." or some BS and they'll lap it up. Maccie D's is a huge global brand - there's tonnes out there to read about

Also when asked why do you want to work for us quote what they say in the job advertisement and what they are looking for eg. We offer good career opportunities to work in a diverse environment. You say I enjoy working and admire how you help employees with training to advance themselves, in particular with regards to diversity as I think everyone needs to be culturally aware in order to understand the customer better, which in turn benefits the organisation.

McDs is also offering more healthy choice food you might want to go down that line, or enjoy working as part of a team etc.

at the end If asked if you have any questions always say YES - even if you have not. You can always finish then by saying "actually its ok you have answered them all so I'm good" Its a little use of psychology they might recognise it or they might not but you walk out the door with the last thing they thought of you was " YES and I'm GOOD"

There is plenty more of advice I could give but it will take far too long for me to write and for you to read. You do need to take advice of the other posts and do your research though.

Good luck mate and I think it is great you are out looking, it will come to you in the end. Only drama that might cause you problems is if you are still studying and only want to work the summer, then you have to use the fact that they offer flexi hours or shift work to work around the times when you are not available and when you can work if they are short.

Happy to say that I learnt something from you.
