$1000AUD rig for a mate, what do you think?

Hello.

My friend has asked for some help selecting parts and building a new system for him. The budget is around $1000 Australian (USD is about parity atm although parts here are more expensive and 1 pound is $1.49AUD). The aim is to get a solid foundation rig to start with, and later down the track put a GPU and soundcard in there if needed (He doesn't really game, so that might not be needed, we'll see) I've gone through the website for the computer shop I use (www.pccasegear.com.au) and this is the shopping list I came up with. I'm wanting any general advice and pointers on this selection. Also if there is one component that I should downgrade to upgrade a different one and keep the price about the same but get more bang for my buck please tell me.

Total = $985

So I'm pretty keen on this case, but will it being a mid-tower mean I might have issues fitting all this and any future cards in it. Also I might be able to convince him to spend another $50 if there is something that will make a huge difference overall. Any thoughts are appreciated. Cheers

For about the same money I would go the Corsair GS600 psu as it is better and you don't need 750W and for the same money I would say go the Western Digital Green 1TB the rest is good if you want to look at a different case take a look at a bitfenix shinobi in black for less or white for same price and for the motherboard the MSI MPower is a hard board to beat for the money and performance the extra $50 could goto a bigger drive or something else.

Thanks. After talking to a few different people I think I'm going to adjust my list to the following

The seasonic is a little bit pricier but doesn't have the efficiancy of the Silver rating so might get him that to keep the bills down a fraction. Also I've heard that even though the low-end Gigabyte MOBOS might not have all the bells and whistles they are the most reliable at that price range. I'll have to look into it more. Also the GPU and cooler will put me over budget. Soundcard/GPU are going to be possible upgrades down the track. Thanks for your help

I would say for the motherboard that a MSI G43 would be a better choice. Looks better and is in a very robust line up of z77 msi boards.

I had the g43 It does not allow you to manually input your voltages. There is also something very finicky about the memory controller on that board. Oh and no SLI...

MSI Z77A G45. Costs less than the Gigabyte, spanks it for features.

This is a huge downfall on these boards, sucks when you have very limited options. The memory controller is on your cpu? The board just may not be doing XMP correctly which is easily fixable.
