I HATE networking

Now I'm scared...

Go to Firefox...no worky

Go to cmd, "ping www.google.com"...no worky

then

Go to Steam...launches

Go to CS:S...lauches...and plays online :eyes:

it is your DNS server that is the prob. in your IP options check the option near the bottom is filled out correctly ;) ill get some more info for ya if this is too vague.

edit* made screenshot for ya. hope tis helps, ill be around a tad lata, gonna UT now ;)

Everting filled in correctly :(

What I want to know is, how the fcuk can Steam connect via the internet while Windows can't????

try and do something else internet related such as updating AV or ftp. see if it is a firewall problem or a ports problem. steam can connect because it is connecting in a different way. the good news is that your hardware is fine, just a software problem. we should be able to figure this out.

Steam might be using IP addresses to connect to servers rather than FQDN's.

Try pinging 66.102.9.99 and see what happens.

go to your firefox tools>options menu then go to general and ensure your firefox connection settings are set up correctly (try direct conection to the net first) also ensure ur firewall aint blockin http traffik

firefox settings wil be fine cos he cant ping either, pointing to a DNS server problem but all seems well in his settings :( arggh networking sucks.

I get ping of 36 from that one :)

EDIT: And when I go into Firefox and type that IP, it takes me to google

Still got the problem muff?

Your laptop is the machine sharing the connection isn't it? If so:

Is the DNS server in your network properties on your desktop set to 169.254.0.1?

Are you able to get on the internet ok using the laptop?

PS: I like you're new avatart muffin

Can you do an 'ipconfig /all' on the laptop for me, and post all the output here.

Here is a couple of things to try:

1. Check that the 'DNS Server' service is running on your LAPTOP if its not, start it.

Test.

2. Remove the 'Default Gateway' and the 'DNS Server' entries from your 'Local Area Connection' on the LAPTOP.

Test.

3. If that doesn't work, put them both back. Then try this...

4. On the desktop, set the 'DNS Server' address to 62.241.162.200

Test.

1. taskmgr shows nothing of a DNS service, but in MSconfig I see a DNS client running

2. nothing

4. WORKS :D
