How To Post Rig Galleries

This is a quick guide on how to successfully post photos of your rig to the Rig Gallery. This is not a concrete guide that must be followed to the letter, but it's a good demonstration on what we're expecting from you guys.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Intro: Give us a brief rundown of your rig and the little stories behind it. Have you had the rig for long? Planning an upgrade soon? All these little details can help make the post more interesting for the other members.

Rig specifications: This is a big one, and it's one of the main reasons this guide is being made. You must include the full specifications of your rig into the original post. Having your specs in your Forum Signature is not a way to get around this.

The images: There are two ways to include images into your thread. One is to use the in-built image attachment tool that the forum provides. The other, and often more popular method, is to use image hosting sites such as http://www.imgur.com, and http://www.photobucket.com to upload your photos and use tags to embed them into the thread.

Please ensure that your images are resized to 1024x768 or smaller. This can be done in a number of ways shown in this link: http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=37499

Posting a link to another site where your rig has is exhibited is not allowed. Any images included must be able to be viewed without external links.

For example, this is not acceptable:
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb225/macrules/IMG_0490.jpg

Whereas this is:
[img]http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb225/macrules/IMG_0490.jpg

( Code: )

Reserved posts: Reserved posts, used to save a space in your Rig Gallery for future updates, are no longer allowed. This is because for as long as the reserved posts are editable, so is the OP. It makes no sense to clog the thread up with more posts. Instead, simply edit the OP and give a datestamp of when the update was made. You should also post a new comment, so as to inform others of your recent updates.
Alternatively, you can simply make new posts with all the updates included. Both ways are accepted.

A demonstration of a 'good' Rig Gallery post.

Hey guys! First time posting on these forums and I thought that it would be a great opportunity to show off my most recent build with y'all :D
I'm still at college, so I don't have the spare money to pump into an uber rig, but I'm quite happy with how this has turned out.

I've been using this PC since around May of last year, and can honestly say that it's a great little beast. The graphics card isn't the best in the world, but for how cheap it is, and how much i've been able to overclock it, i'm supremely happy with it.

I am a part of Folding @ Home as my signature suggests, and I do leave the rig on 24/7 to crunch through those work units. It only does SMP folding, as GPU folding with AMD cards just doesn't work, and I average around 35k with it. Not too shabby, and it's allowed me to steadily climb the leaderboards!

Rig specs:

3770K @ 4.4GHz
Noctua NH-D14 with three Corsair SP120 QE fans
MSI Z77A GD65
Corsair AX850
MSI 7850 Power Edition @ 1250MHz core, 1300MHz memory
8GB Mushkin Blackline RAM @ 2133MHz
2 x 120GB Mushkin Chronos SSDs in RAID0 for the OS, programs, and games
1TB WD Green drive for everything else
Corsair M60 Mouse
The old chiclet keyboard from my long-gone iMac

Please inform me if you'd like to see any more photos, or if you have any criticisms of my build!*
Thanks for reading, and until next time.

*This is just a demo post. Please don't request more photos, as it's not going to happen!

I hope this guide will prove helpful to you, and that you'll keep to these guidelines when making your own threads.

Regards,
The OC3D Staff Team.

Wondering if you could also clear up the etiquette regarding "Reserved Posts". I know some people like to put them in at the beginning if they haven't got all their stuff together. However I have seen them treated quite differently, sometimes mods let it go and sometimes not.

I also think that it would be a shame to completely "Outlaw" teaser builds - i.e. ones that have little written info upfront but just some shots of sexy hardware and watch them evolve. I for one don't always want to turn to the centrefold - I want some foreplay first.

A good question, and one that I've answered in the guide itself.

@Josh Nice mouse eh? Have the same, finally had to let go the Logitech MX518 i had for a VERY long time.

I will start making pictures tomorrow and post my rig as well. It costed me a bunch of money, took me almost 3 months to gather.

It's nothing monsterly, but for my budget it's quiet a big rig.

Heh, yeah, I love it. Mice are far more important than keyboard when it comes to day to day use and gaming for me. I'd much rather spend money on a good mouse than a good keyboard, hence i'm sticking with the ol'chiclet thing from my iMac.

I only wish that the sniper button could be bound in games.

How do I put a link to my rig gallery in my sig, I don't mean just the URL link, I want to give the link the name of my rig

im new to this , i hope its shows the largest image sizes that can be vued ? :)

Images bigger than 800 pixels wide will automatically be resized down to make them viewable, but a larger version will still be there on a click.

We would appreciate it if you'd be respectful with image sizes, especially on rig galleries/project logs if you have lots of pictures since it may just end up being a pain for some members to load them all.

Try to limit down to 1024 pixels wide if you can - there's really no ruling about it, but it does make it easier for everyone.
