How to copy music from one computer to the next.

This is a n00b question, but I ripped a CD to my desktop and everything is cool, but I want the music to be on another computer on my network. I share the folder that the files are located in and I check the box to allow the other user to change the files. You can access it on the other computer but I can't drag the files from my network places into anywhere on the desired computer. It says that cannot move the file because it is write protected or currently in use. I don't have the folder open or anything. How can I copy these music files from my main computer to the other one and delete the files off my main computer?

Sorry for the long winded explanation, if you need more info just ask.

when you say you ripped them....are u sure u didnt just copy the files straight from the cd, hence not converting them to mp3/aac/wma or whatever

If you simply restart the origin pc, don`t play any of the music, don`t open the folder to the music, but just try copying it to the other pc then. If that works ok then something is hooking the music and what windows is telling you is correct.

If you have 50 million music files, well lets say alot, what can stop you being able to move media files is/are things like caching, preview options, retrieving media info off the internet, and having folder options list durations, artists and so on.

In these cases you can`t even delete the files on the original pc coz it similarly says the file(s) in use.

I`m sorry I`m using DirectoryOpus on this pc atm, but I`m sure if you go into your origin pc`s folder options->view and tick Do Not Cache Thumbnails *I think*, apply it to atleast your music storing folder. Then goto that folder and right-click on the list headings (Name/Size/Type/etc) and make sure you havent got loads of headings selected.

The next thing to try is to go into your media player and make sure it`s not doing something like getting net info for each of your tracks, or caching it`s info or similar.

Failing all that it could be your network session is screwy, which happens a whole heck of a lot, meaning you could be legitimately connected to the network, but have half and half priviledges.

You could simply just burn a copy of the CD and put it in the other computer ;) My guess is that AAC screwed you though. DRM FTL.
