Have you just installed a new program and all the icons for a particular type of file have changed and you want them back. This guide will tell you how to put the icons back to what they were before.

e.g. a new MP3 program has been installed and it has changed the icons and you want the windows media icons back.

Open Windows Explorer,

Select tools,

Select folder options,

From that new box select file types.

A list of file types will now be displayed. Select the file type you want e.g .mp3

Under details for it select the advanced button,

A new box will be displayed,

In that new box select change icon,

You can then select a file which has icons in it to use.

In our example we wanted the windows media icon back.

To do this the file we want is C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe

Once you have selected this file then it will display a new box. There should be 2 icons in it. Select the one which you prefure. Once you have completed that you can click ok and close explorer.

All files of that type that you changed will have a new icon now.

yes but the files will still open with the new mp3 player. you could just go to change program access and defaults from the start menu and do it that way. im sure your methos has some good uses tho.
