How much of a difference will OC make

Froger

New member
hi all, iv recently come back into the folding team, and i only have a stock cooler as i ran out of money when buying my rig, and i have a stock i5 4670k, and i was wondering when folding, i do folding with my CPU and GPU (gtx 760) and wanted to know how much of a difference a small overclock. (like 3.6-3.8Ghz) would make to my score, which is currently, 22358 PPD. and how much of a difference a small overclock on my GPU would make. when i get a new cooler i intend to overclock higher, but for now, what do you think.
thanks for the help :)

I have the experience that only really high end CPU based system are worth folding with, if your priority is SMP folding. Primarily because you need a 3930k @ 4.2 GHz, or faster with a Linux based system.

The difference with the OC won't be worth the effort 4670k. It's not that your CPU is slow or something, it's just on the grand scale of things not worth the effort.

If you over clock you GTX 760 and cool it right, you'll get a much better score out of it. By the way, I haven't folded with nVidia cards for a while, but the shader clock used to be essential for a high PPD. I hope other members might be able to confirm that. You wouldn't need to push the Core or Memory frequency if this would be still the case...
