How much for phase change?

I've been reading through the stickies and links for about 2 hours. I know how it works happily now but am still finding pricing of premade unit rather stupid. I have a friend who could do the brazing for me but I don't think its out of my capability. I'm also getting a welder for christmas which will be first used to build a custom case for my media center system, so casing and mounting won't be a problem. I am well up for trying to build a single stage on my own then asking someone else in the know to check (and fix but hopefully not), evac and charge the system.

Here is my real problem I dont know **** about where to get the actual components. I'm just wondering where you guys gets yours? Like most of the one i think I've found look like piece of ****e yet PJAlchemists new two ones look brilliant. Also how loud are they when they sit next to you?

The ones that look brilliant are the ones that cost. The workmanship that goes into them is phonminal (sp?) form the likes of LittleDevil.

To build your own, parts wise, isn't too expensive. It's the tools that cost. Depending on the type, I spect a welder will be less than useful. MAPP torches aint too expensive though.

You can get nearly all parts form cold_ice here and evaps + mouts and line sets form Ron here.

I have a compresser, suction line, cap, evap, moutning, acum all brazed up ready to go, probs got an old condenser you could have which is pretty much everything you need if you were wanting too build ya own! Mapp is the cheapest and easyest way to go, again selling my barly used mapp tourch and gas as gone back to proper brazing kit.

It's costly due to the lack of people doing and it being done legaly. I belive i am one of the very few that have my F gas cert to do it, seeing as outside the pub i work for a HVAC company.

Im picky on how much units looks and fancy pushing the boat out on them hense why im doing things not done before! It comes at a cost though!

BES is a great place to get most of your stuff, ebay too

I will use the welder to do the case and have a while to source parts. I have had a big help on the parts front but as its coming to christmas its gonna be a long term project of pure fun. Any idea in dB how loud these are when on or just a guesstimate?

Currently I've gotta build a PC into a desk drawer for a christmas present and I have loads of bits to fit for my car (FM antiroll bars, RB adjustable endlinks, Cobra seat, FM butterfly brace, IRTBs, cold intake system, NACA light duct).

Grr im going to remove the testicals off the next person that winges about noise!

It's the same as AIR, WATER, it'll be as loud as the parts you use!

A Danfoss NL11F is pretty dam silent, if mounted properly is totaly unheard of. Fans well same as above too do with air and water, you need a decent air flow to cool the condesner and compresser.

30db say!

I sleep with a unit running

I'd never complain about the noise I just wanted to now so it isn't a shock. I even tried listening to my freezer and thats pretty quiet.

It will be, very very few have a fan on them.

Bets way too listen too a rotary is Pub or restuant where they have chiller or freezer that do -21c

The closest thing you'll find easily are chest freezers in shops. Not massive ones like in supermarkets but the likes of ice cream freezers.
