How many monitors support HDCP?

I'm looking to get a new monitor but I stumbled across this article:

http://pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,122738,00.asp

Which basically says if you want to view high definition DVDs with windows vista you need a HDCP monitor.

I'm probably not going to move to Vista for at least a year after it comes out (if at all) but I want to future-proof myself.

Does anyone know if many monitors support HDCP and if they are very expensive? I might delay buying one.

Cheers

if i remember correctly, i dont think you can buy these monitors yet..somebody can clear this up tho

There are about 10 monitors available to buy on consumer side which 5 of the was tested at FiringSuqad in a LCD roundup. The big problem however, was that all the major GPU companies boated HDCP support in their products but the truth indicates otherwise. Alan at FiringSquad has posted an article detailing just what the problem with HDCP is and why those who just spent half a grand on the latest graphics cards will not have full HDCP support.

You can read the article at FiringSquad

Worst of all, a lot of computers out there that claim to have graphics processing that is "Vista ready" actually falls short of meeting those claims. So my advice would be to wait till vista is released , G.P.U's support it fully , monitors released and reviewed , then you may make a safe purchase otherwise at this is time , its either non available or too expensive or it might not even work as you would of expected it to.

Edit: Corrected HDCP Ready monitor information:

Yep, MS are playing a big hand in this, you can't watch HD movies on Vista without it, Otherwise they are blurred by the system (not a fault, its meant to do it). The major factor is the problem that no current GPUs are capable of delivering HDCP.

Wirelessly posted (Nextel BB7520: BlackBerry7520/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

Yay I'm future proofed for vista  lol

lol, I think the biggest jip that MS are pulling are making Halo 2 for Vista only. Thats stupid, because by the time they get Vista out, Halo2's going to be ancient and with games like UT2007 out, its not going to do well at all tbh. A bad move imo.

Its up to the film companys if they want to make there DVD's like that, if they do piracy will go way up so people can watch films. Stupid move by all.

Unfortunatly all the stupid consermers are quite happy to be dictated this shit by the istitutions! Make a stand I say.
