How hot should a P4 2.53 get?

maybe, but pretty unlikely imo, the ihs is 1.5 +/- 0.05mm thick. The stock heatsinks provide 60+ pounds of force that added with the leeway that Intel gives for cpu height means it shouldn't be a problem.

And that can matter a lot, when making proper contact. Read up m8, you could have caused him to kill his CPU if he removed his IHS and his heatsink never made contact ;).

EDIT: It doesn't matter how much weight is applied. The retention bracket's have ledges on them to prevent the heatsink from going down too far, thus preventing it from contacting the core if you remove the IHS :).

Hmm probably, but, other people say that the stock cooler makes contact fine with the core, you just don't bend the board the same amount you do with the ihs on, and therefore don't get the same amount of pressure.
