How do you cope with the "upgrade" bug ?

Ive managed to hold off on a FX-8350 mainly because my 8150 is running so good. Runs 24/7 rock solid at 4.5 with Cool & Quiet enabled (idle cores at 1.4GHz @ .85V) so its not a heat generating or power draw monster. I was holding out for a Steamroller FX but since thats not going to happen I dont know if Ill just go with a new 8350 or completely jump ship to Intel when the Haswell-E comes out or maybe when the 4690K's come out in June.
The only thing you'd get from the 8350 is maybe a higher overclock. You might be able to push it to 4.7/4.8GHz depending on how lucky you get with it. Mine is good for 5.2GHz, but it needs 1.55v to get there.

Regarding a new FX processor, you won't get a Steamroller one that's for sure, but based on this there probably is something new in the line of an FX chip coming. No more details on what it is yet though. I'm willing to wait until 2015 to find out. :)

Id get about a 10% boost in clock for clock performance which aint half bad.

I remember that article but Im not so sure it means a new AM3+ FX chip coming anytime soon. Everything Ive seen and read from AMD makes me think theyre all about their APU's. I got a feeling that itll be Carrizo (Excavator APU's) on FM2+ in 2015. Ive been rolling this 8150 for a while now waiting for AMD to bring something new but no matter how much of an AMD fanboy I am, I cant stay stagnant for much longer and cant wait til 2015 and Im afraid jumping ship to Intel is going to be my only option. Ive been an AMD guy for a long time but if theyre not doing anything in the performance desktop segment anymore then I cant see a reason to stay. :(

8350 is much better than an 8150. Worth the upgrade IMO.

Nah not really. It's less than 10% in most cases clock for clock.

4.5 is about the average overclock (24/7 stable) for Piledrivers so it's a cap shoot me getting a 8350 that will do much more than that. A 8350 at 4.6 wouldn't be that much of an improvement at least not one worth $200 especially since it's doubtful I'd even notice the difference in real world use. So that's why I'm probably just gonna wait. No promises though cause I may find one on sale down around $140 and may not be able to resist. Haha

I'm the same. I've been an AMD'er for nearly a decade now, having only one Intel cpu on the desktop (a Q9450) in that time.

I've been looking at Haswell-E but the cost just won't justify the upgrade particularly once you add the DDR4 to the equation. Going to Haswell or the Haswell refresh isn't going to do anything for me either. Having said that, if DirectX 12 is anything to go by, us FX users might not have to upgrade for a while to come yet, even my old Phenom II 955 might have some life breathed into it.

BTW, Carrizo is to sport DDR4 so it can't be FM2+.

I can't help myself, biggest waste of money so far is a change from 3570K+GD55 to 4770K+Hero.

Dont be so hard on yourself. If you had fun overclocking that new 4770 and mobo, then that was worth it. If we were after value, we wouldnt be in this hobby. Haha! I mean Ive got a $140 keyboard for Christs sake! We've long since passed the point of value smart shoppers. :D

I have Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013...

Wanna hear something stupid? Im really wanting to buy one of those for NO OTHER REASON than its green backlighting will match my Deathadder 2013. Right now I keep my DA 3.5G (yes Ive got both DA's) out more just because the backlighting matches. HAHA! So yeah, dont look for any sign of logic or rationale when talking about all the toys we buy. :p
