How do you cope with the "upgrade" bug ?

I am literally exactly the same. Got through 4 GPU's in the last 6 months.

You ain't the only one. I built my rig a few months ago, slapped a 4670K in that beast and away I went. Then I got to thinking, I want to keep the CPU for at least 4 -5 years and with games becoming more and more heavily multi-threaded, I just shelled out for a 4770K. I'm in the same boat, my bills aren't expensive, very decent job, no kids and no wife or girlfriend at the moment. I wasn't happy with the i5 anyway. It can be finicky at times when it decides there's a hair up it's ass. I'm ecstatic with everything else that's in my rig though.

Well I've come to the conclusion that I will skip the Haswell refresh and the 8xx series from Nvidia seeing as I just got my 2nd 780 Ti for SLI, Both are overclocked nicely, My 4770K is running at 4.60GHZ and by the time Haswells and Maxwells successors arrive I will of saved up enough to refresh my rig :)

I had the upgrade bug last november where i was just itching to replace my 2 gtx 570 cards in favor for a single card to save some power and not deal with stuttering and heat, so i did :D

Mostly its more of a want this but dont need it.

Mine was lack of money before i got a job.. now its just saving up for my own truck. I won't upgrade my PC until major major releases come out.

My 4770k arrived, it's in the rig and the upgrade bug has been beat off with a stick at the moment. It just came yesterday and from the looks of it, it should get better clocks than my i5.

With me, it's other priorities. I'm planning to upgrade my car this year so shelling out any more for PC hardware isn't something I can do now, unless of course something is to fail in the meantime.

My next CPU and motherboard will be something that's DDR4 capable. Hopefully there'll be a new FX chip from AMD in the future; that'll be my next upgrade. When it comes to the GPU, I'll hold off until something that's fully DirectX 12 capable, my GTX 780 is good for a long time at 1080p. I probably should have just stuck with the 7950, upgrading to the 780 from that was a waste of money really.

That puts me not upgrading until maybe mid 2015 at the earliest.

I fight it by just buying the stuff which will run my games smooth at 1920*1080 and don't install a program that monitors my fraps. Because otherwise i'd never be satisfied. with my current frames

I know for a fact when the Haswell refresh comes out I will be fighting the upgrade bug quite hard.

I know that going from a 4770K to a 4790K will yield such tiny results that the human eye will barely be able to see them, Even some other places such as Anandtech have said if your on Haswell there is no reason to "Upgrade" unless you absolutely NEED the M.2 interface and slightly better thermals.

But I'll still have that devil on my shoulder saying "But your stuff is old and defunct now".

Until recently, it was the lack of money thing. Now, I just fight it by tinkering with what I already have.

For instance, since Project DSV completed a few months back, i've torn it down and re-worked it about 4 times now.

Sure, there's other reasons too, but it helps fight the upgrade bug (tricking my body into thinking it is upgrading something, when it isn't basically).

I was actually considering downgrading what I've got instead ie. selling my FX-8350 and GTX 780 and going with an FX-6300 and GTX 770 or GTX 680 instead, since I'm probably not going to be able to notice the difference between either setup anyway. Although I've since got lazy. :p

I'd stick with your setup, You'll be regretting the downgrade in a few years time ;)

Simple: Self control.

True good point :)

I dont cope with it too well. I was buying a CPU a year there for a while. Didnt hardly buy anything new last year which was the first time in a long while. My itch right now is for a new power supply. My current TX750 is doing fine but its over 4 years old and Ive been hammering on it with all these AMD overclocks and stress testing and such. So my next buy will likely be a Corsair AX760i because I think the Corsair Link software will be a fun little toy to play with for a while.

Ive managed to hold off on a FX-8350 mainly because my 8150 is running so good. Runs 24/7 rock solid at 4.5 with Cool & Quiet enabled (idle cores at 1.4GHz @ .85V) so its not a heat generating or power draw monster. I was holding out for a Steamroller FX but since thats not going to happen I dont know if Ill just go with a new 8350 or completely jump ship to Intel when the Haswell-E comes out or maybe when the 4690K's come out in June.
