How do I remove algae from water loop?

Got me an EXOS 2 and I noticed todfay that some algae is growing on the res.

I am using some stuff for ponds right now to see if ti will clean it up.

Just in case that dont work - Any ideas on how to kill it off? The res is sealed to a point that even if I stripped it down I could not physically clean it - I probably required some cleaning agent of some sort.

Any ideas?

M8 it is a problem sometimes, you will need to run the pump without the system on disconnect the 24 pin and just connect up the green and black wires to make the pump run, right first of all drain the water system completely and then add a mixture of distilled water and vinegar 50/50 and run the loop over night, this will take out any bacteria in the water loop then drain and flush then refill and your done.

Flush twice

Vinegar (also known as acetic or ethanoic acid) is corrosive, and can form a pit or crack, or it can extend across a wide area to produce general deterioration. So, please flush thoroughly with distilled water after cleaning. This method with also remove any calcium buildup (de-scaling).

I wonder what that Caustic Soda (sodium hydroxide) would do...

Caustic is extremely corrosive to aluminium and other soft metal - avoid like the plague unless your system is made of plastic and stainless steel.

Flushing commences in 1 hour - worked a treat, thanks sacha.

No problem M8 you should have know problems with corrosion as i said a mixture of distilled water and vinegar, Not 100% Vinegar as this would be corrosive and could cause problems but the diluted mixture is totally safe to use in the loop.

As for what stocky said stay away from Caustic Soda M8 if you want a water loop that will that will last, as Caustic Soda will eat everything in site pipes plastic everything M8 avoid it like the plague.

I am using an AQZ050 pump and it creates a lot of turbulent flow - this will remove the algae that has adhered to things in the channels and pipework (flow certainly looks better this morning).

Although the alage was still in the air pockets on the exos res this morning.

I just picked it up and gave it a good shake - the algae dropped off :)

Hehe, is it that vicious? 8)

I've never used caustic soda - I just heard twas good for cleaning blocked pipework out, as it wouldn't be much good if it ate through it :O

Put it this way when i used to race bikes and karts, i used to use it to clean all the carbon deposits from the inside of the exhausts buy socking them in Caustic Soda overnight, it is that strong it would even remove the paint as-well on the exhausts, it will eat anything it comes in contact with and will start corroding as soon as the air gets to it.
