How can i improve my cooling?

Hey guys,

well i would like to try and improve my case cooling....lower my cpu temps,at idle it sits around 41c on both cores which i know for a c2d isnt that great as they usualy run cool.

my gfx card temps are good,it idles around 41c and never goes over 50c when gaming on cod4,my hard drive temps okay at 37c,its just my cpu temp im not happy with.

heres my case ,recomend any improvements?

Side of case has 2x vent holes, one which is right the side of my AC7 pro.

i would have thought with the AC7 pushing the air streight out the exhaust fan it would have kept my cpu cool but seems not

as you can probably see i have a fan (Intake on the front) but its pointless because theres no grills on the front :D

Back of case, left 2 plates blank for extra air to get in for my 8800GT

and finaly the front.

what do you recomend i do guys?

The best/easiest thing you can do is just to get a different CPU cooler, the noctua or the latest ocz vendetta (2) are probably the easiest to get hold of. (and apparently the new ocz vendetta is the best around)

Hi mate,

tbh i dont realy want to replace my cpu cooler....i only got it a few months back .

the computer shop fitted it for me,i wish i would have done it myself now as i dont think they cleaned off the old gunky thermal paste before putting the new cooler on :o

do you think its more to do with my cases airflow?

Air flow is a big important part of cooling a case, but as long as the heatsink is ok the temps on the CPU should stay fine. Maybe your case is not blowing out air? Is all the fans the right way, should be in and out

yes mate my fans are all the right way,i just think its because if poor case circulation because i have a 120Mm fan on the front as intake but like i said its pointless because theres no like fan grill at the front of my case, only little vents as you can see on the side of the case at the front (first pic)

What kind of load temps have you got at the moment?

If you put your hand by the front intake fan does it feel like its moving as much air as the rear exhaust one? If not I'd say it might be worth dremeling or something, to cut out the material around the intake fan so you can move some air with it. That which should help things. Maybe a little tidy up of a cables could also help. Are there any BIOS settings controlling your fans aswell? Could be they're set to lower rpm's to keep noise down.

Cheers!

Are you able to add a fan onto the side panel to cool the gfx better. You could arrange it so that the fan is blowing out the side pulling the hot air off of the gfx, reducing the air temp inside the case.

I'd use the lower hole on the side panel for that, as it looks like the cpu sink may get in the way.

Also buy a karma bay for your front panel. That will direct cool air over cpu heat sink. Prob take a few degrees off.

load temps are around 53c

well they feel about the same exept not much air realy

as for the bios question,i havnt realy had a good luck in there but i cant recall seeing any setings for fan speed....only what theyre running at it shows i dont think i can adjust them.

yes i am able to add a fan to that bottom vent,i have a spare 92mm fan (orange ;p;) which could go there.

as for the Kama bay...sorry its too big,it requires 3 open cd slot panels, and although i have 4 of them on my case 2 of them are been used by my both Dvd drive and dvdrw drive.

my friend had a Kama bay though and he took it out after one week because he said it was realy noisy :(

Sort out the cables would be the best place to start.

I'd go for an extractor at the top of the case. Grab a jigsaw/dermal and a drill and cut a mount between the PSU and 1st ODD.

Maybe get some larger feet and an intake on the bottom if you feeling adventurous.

But yeah, sort the cables first.

an extra fan at the top pulling hot air out is a good idea, also cut off the grills for the back fan as it's restrictive and making noises
