How about an auto-refreshing "view new content" page

I would really like overclock3d.net to have a view new content page that automatically refreshes itself as new posts keep on coming in the forums just like facebook has in its news feed...Won't be too difficult to do, or would it????

I wouldnt like that as sometime I hit view new content after sitting idle for a bit (chasing kids around) and i lose some of the previous content and I'm like shite now i gotta go look 4 it. 2 me its just as simple to put mouse on the link and left click it

many problems can arise from doing a dynamic content browser for forums.

  • people editing their own posts.
  • many people posting at the same time.
  • etc...

the updates would be very messy... and, what is recent and/or old news for you will not be for others... this means that a client-side script/applet would need to be written, and each member use it to poll the server via enquiries.

not a good idea.

but, if you wanted to write a script yourself, to refresh the page/content, it wouldn't be too hard

Presently, whenever I start a new thread and i'm watching it, I have to refresh the page everytime to see if there is a new reply to my post...Can't anything be done to make things a little bit easier in this case???

And as far as losing previous content is concerned on the new content page, like S_I_N said, there could be an option to mark threads which appear interesting to browse them later on and at the same time, new oncoming threads can be updated on the same page.

Auto reload is on all browsers.

I have it on Chrome for website testing while editing. Refresh every5 seconds.

One thing you will fin is aft er a min or two the forum will kick you and say stop it.

Auto refresh on a page like that is heavy on the database. Though I am sure the server will cope

The issue with this is also that it would be the forum software that would need modding to make it auto refresh for new content, i use this software myself, though a newer version and i don't think its anything the devs ever plan to put into it
