ok..
not that sure about my plan here but it should be ok i think..

im planning on getting a lga 771 server with 2x E5450's
probably a 20gb ssd and all it will do is host an assetto corsa server..
Im hoping it could handle like 8 clients. without any slow downs and stuff. but i find it difficult to get reccomended specs for serving..

i assume quite a lot of us here do play the game, and some of you may be hosting already and would have a better idea..

so if any one knows let me know please..

(i put it in off topic chat because it did not quite fit in to any other sections)

also i do not want to be paying lots for a system that will really only be hosting a private server for a few people. so its either this will work or it wont work. there is no alternatave. "unless you can find a system without the ssd for £60 delivered that would do the job better"

I think SPS has hosted AC servers before.
That systems should suffice easily though.

was thinking it should be ok but not 100% on per core performance being enough.
should be quite a lot better than an 8120 doing the same work load though. BUT i dont even know if a 8120 could do what i wanted it to.
any way il try and get it regardless at the least it can get traded out for my core 2 duo system i use for mixing music. which would be ok i guess.

You can run multiple 40 player csgo servers on a single 8320. An 8 player AC server should be no problem with that setup.

Yep. I was surprised how well it performed. A 4770k is still better, but also more expensive.

Indeed, then again linux makes better use of multiple weaker cores then windows does so its often a good budget option. I'm currently messing around with Virtualisation using proxmox on my 8320.

8320 is a bit better than an 8120 though not to sure how xenons stack up to an 8320 either to be honest.

Depends on what you need the server to do in general, although I'm pretty sure its faster than some socket 775 xeons in most circumstances. I know my AMD would be kicked by most xeons if I was using it to host something that only uses one to two threads and is very intensive, such as Arma 3's dedicated servers (unless they've finally f***ing fixed that).

i know i put a 8120 through some benches vs mmy 3.7ghz oc'd q6600. and if it wasnt close enough to even then the q6600 was winning.
an 8320 should have beaten the q6600 with relitive ease though. pretty sure the 8320 is considerably better.

It is, especially overclocked. To put it into context, my ol' 8320 @4ghz (so turbo clocks) would bench as high as a 3770 when the cores were used properly, I'll find my benches when I get home.

just to update i managed to get a little server rig 2x xeon e5405 (thats 2ghz quad 771) saves you checking.

had hoped for 2x 3ghz but that one fell thru. also this one comes ready to go so i will skip the ssd and just pack it full of ecc ram.

asked at the AC forums about hosting spec, and they seem quite vague about it all.
said its mostly down to bandwidth. but again werent able to give me a reccomended Kb per slot number either..

hopefully it should be ok.. if it turns out to be overkill ( i doubt it) then il be pretty happy. if it ends up being not enough il be a bit piissed off but atleast it will replace my downstairs righ which is usually used for music mixing and some very light gaming "mid core 2 duo. with a low profile HD 7 seriese "works out at about the same as a 5770)

il just swap the gpu's over and it will be able to game a bit better than what it can now.
Then il swap that for my media center pc. "also a core 2 duo, but less of one" and sell that on set up as a media center.

-=edit=-

ok just did some more buying (ram) so the server should end up as:

2x E5405 quad cpu's
10gb ddr2 fully buffered ecc 667 ram.
500gb hdd
ati Hd 7750 (low profile. its about the same as a 5770)

comes with windows vista COA on the side of it. "may use that i guess but i do hate vista"

I also contacted my ISP and had them upgrade my fibre from 23Mb/s down - 1.9Mb/s up to 76Mb/s down - 16.8 Mb/s up (thats the max they can give me damn them!)

That should host 8 players in ac and not have f;lying cars. people glitching every where and other stupid issues right??

wonder if there will be space to water cool it lol.
