Hey Guys,

The only reason I decided to come to this forum is because I constantly watch Tiny Tom Logan and heard he runs things around here now. I am finishing up school ATM. I have about 6 weeks left and off to start life. I am looking to do another build soon. Let me know what ya think. Advice is always welcome.

Current Setup:
MSi 990fx GD80
Phenom II x6 1090T
Kingston HyperX 8GB 1600
Corsair AX850
eVGA GTX 460 SSC
WD Black 1TB
Corsair H80

*I am looking to do a few small upgrade to this rig for the time being.
>Corsair H100I
>WD VelociRaptor 300GB Boot Drive.
>Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600
>Case Asthetics

New Setup:
MSi z77 MPOWER
Core i7-3770K
Corsair Dominator 16GB 1600
Either MSi GTX680 Lightning OR eVGA GTX680 FTW+
Corsair AX 860i
Corsair Neutron 240GB Boot Drive
Samsung F3 1TB (x2)
Corsait H100i

Please leave me comments. I appreciate constructive criticism. I will prob end up doing a custon watercooling loop eventually. I want to take more time planning everything out for it. I have never done it so I want to make sure it is done right.

Thanks

I have a Crucial M4 SSD. The thing kinda freaked out on me and quit working. Then when i reconfigured the comp, it didnt recognize the drive. The other day, I popped the drive in and it did recognize it. I dont know what the deal with it is. I did read that after about 1000 hours, that specific drive started to fail people. Who knows! Thats what I get for buying Crucial. lol I was going to get the raptor because I can get it for $70 and save the rest for the upcoming build. I just need something in the machine I have now to hold me over until I can get the new build going. BTW, hows ORCA running?

Only way i could see to help with this is save you 3-4 hundred dollars. Might be useful if u want to upgrade your monitor.

Any corsair 550-650w PSU is more than enough for that, you really dont need 850, quite frankly you could probably SLI/Xfire with a 750 . save 100$

7970, or even a 7950 if you are comfortable with overclocking. save 100-200$

Get 2 samsung 2x4gb ram set. Equivilent performance (unless you plan on overclocking way way way past what even most overclock enthusiast do, then get the dominator.) It's small form factor has black pcb.
Con: Doesnt come with cool looking heatsink.
Pro: Best ram you can find for that intel cpu, stock voltage is very low, 1.35 i believe, and you can get it to 1800mhz without getting up to 1.5v. Save 100$

edit: Correction- accidnetally used the 1800 dominator for the price check. Still, would go with the samsung, you could always get a 10$ aftermarket ram fan to make it look cool :p

Maybe the 760i then.

I have never overclocked a GPU before. It is something I would like to learn. I have really never had a reason to overclock a GPU. I game, but they seem to do fine where they are at. I'm sure it could do better. Just never done it. As far as AMD vs NVIDIA. I have always run NVIDIA. I have had one ATI card that came as a package deal with a power supply (HD4770) and it sucked. Unless someone can come up with some super duper carzy stuff on why I should switch. then I probably wont.

The reason I chose the RAM is b/c I am really into asthetics and that ram looks amazing (the dom platinum). Plus, Corsair ram is amazing and I have had no trouble in the past with them. The first ram I ever bought was Corsair.

I appreciate the advice. I kinda figured the PSU was a little much, but it never hurts, right?

If you are doing video editiing, etc, then stick with the i7. Just using the system for regular use and gaming, then go with the i5 3570k instead. Similar performance for that and saves some $$.
