hey guys, so i want to make a very, *cheap* home server. something that i can learn, play and just get used to networking and the possiblities of using a server such as having proper backups, or even hosting certain things (maybe a site for myself and my friends) not sure yet but there's a lot to learn.

So the 'budget' is pretty low, around 200 canadian dollars, but i only need a cpu, mobo and ram right now. I already have an hx650, a nh-d14, and a 2tb hdd (no case, but i don't care, i'll make one

i was thinking:

MSI H61M-P21 (B3) Socket 1155 Intel H61 - 54

Intel Core i3-2120 Dual-Core Socket 1155, 3.30Ghz - 140

Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 - 25

so total = 219

is this gonna be powerful enough?

or

can you do this better (or) cheaper

thanks, i was also just looking at the amd side of things, and they seem cheap too, i can get:

AMD A6-3670K Quad Core 2.7GHz unlocked apu socket fm1 - 120

Gigabyte GA-A55M - DS2 - 65

Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 - 25

total - 210

just don't know how amd apu's will do with server 'tasks' is there any difference?

EDIT: actually i just saw online second hand intel i5-750 and asus maximus 3 formula (100 each) so for 200+25ram i can get something really powerful (maybe even as a part time folding machine
