• Where are you located? England, UK
• What is your budget? £1000-1500
• Will you need a monitor, keyboard, and/or mouse included in that budget? No - still rocking an eMachines keyboard ;)
• Shall you be requiring an OS? Yes, Win 10.
• What will you be using this rig for? Gaming!
• If gaming, what resolution will you be playing at? 1920x1080 until I decide on a new monitor.
• Will you be overclocking? Not personally - See build details.
• Do you need a full build or will you be reusing some old parts?
Full build with addition of current 1TB HD, current parts seem unreliable, high chipset temp spikes under light load.

Ok, so onto business

My current selection of parts is below (see partpicker link) - I've temporarily put in a Case, as I'm still very much undecided my first thought was the NZXT or perhaps something from the cooler master range...

The Ryzen 5 1600x seems like the best choice by far in terms of price for performance output.

PSU seems like a good choice for me, different watt calculators give me different suggestions - 400w-600w, 750w modular seemed like a safe choice.

Also not 100% on the CPU cooler, haven't done as much research as I should but Corsair is generally quite good. (Trying to move away from Fan - unless the be Quiet! Pure Rock' is worth keeping as part of the bundle**)

See below link of the overclocking part - Hopefully I'm able request with custom parts.

I would appreciate thoughts and any improvements \ recommendations!

Many thanks in advance :)

In my eyes, it looks like a good build all around. 750W is more than enough for your build, maybe a bit too much some would maybe say, but will definitely do.

The cooler will also be more than good for your CPU, will even give you some overclocking headroom :)

One thing that stood out to me though was the Samsung 120GB M.2 SSD which you have selected. I'm assuming this will purely be for OS and few games? As that 120GB will fill up pretty fast once you start loading it with different softwares and especially games.

I'd personally switch that out for an for example Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD, and you'd still be under your £1500 mark, at roughly total £1468.60.

Other than that, looks good to me.

120gb is more than enough for Windows 10 alone. I's still using one in the rig I'm on now (128gb Revodrive). You won't get pretty much any games on there though, as stuff like Doom is bigger than Windows :D

However, that shouldn't matter too much. There are a few games like Fallout 4 that like a good SSD but if you don't play that then you should be fine.

Me personally? well as Chrazey says the rig is pretty much spot on. However, I would rather have a 500gb SSD instead of the 1TB. so 120SSD/500SSD/4TB

I agree with Chrazey. Go with Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD. If it was my rig for gaming i would also go for R5 1500 CPU instead of 1600X, and i would take RM650X PSU.

The build looks good to me, although I would definitely get some higher frequency RAM.

Basically, a Ryzen 6-core chip has two triple-core 'CCXes'. These two CCXes communicate with each other through something called 'Infinity Fabric'. This means that each Ryzen chip basically has two CPUs communicating with each other.

Memory speed really affects the speed of infinity fabric, thus high-speed memory can cause a pretty sizable increase in performance, while slower memory can really hold Ryzen chips back. I hope what I wrote was somewhat understandable, but here's a lot of articles on the internet that go into more detail on this.

All in all, I'd probably buy a 2x8GB kit at 3000 MHz or more. This Corsair LPX kit is only £10 more expensive than the kit you listed :) This 3200MHz kit is also a good choice.

Oh i didn't see memory speed. :D Yea. 3000MHz, or 3200Mhz memory would be nice. Just to be able to utilize speed if you win silicon lottery with CPU.

Hi all :)
Thanks for the swifty replies much appreciated.

The 120GB SSD was purely intended for the OS only, the 1TB HD is being pulled out of my current rig, as its got ~700GB of games and didn't fancy the hassle of re-downloading for a few weeks :D - with the extended 4TB's should last quite a few years hopefully.
The main games are mobas\Payday 2\Vermintide currently, so probably not as performance intensive as fallout 4.

AverageNinja - Thanks for the explanation, most helpful :) I'll definitely look at changing the mhz to 3200 as suggested #lottowin.

Any top 3 recommendations for a case - aesthetics aren't a deal-breaker, had considered mid-tower over full, as I'm not sure on the benefits of the full(other than possibly better airflow?)...
(current rig case - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Advance-8102B0-Gamer-Plastic-Black/dp/B005G9D2T6 looked nice until I accidentally ripped the fans off trying to open it up argh!)

Many thanks again

I am biased when it comes to cases. I'm a fractal design fanboy.
Soo with that said, you should look into the FD Define C cases. With or without Window, thats up to your preference:)

I never recommend Corsair stuff anymore, so I couldn't even tell you what to get from them...
I like Phanteks as well, the Evolve series is pretty good. I use the ITX Evolve currently(i know a FD fanboy using something not Fractal lol). Only downside to this series is they are in my opinion, little too expensive.

Fractal Design Define C, or if you want a little more room, and no PSU cover Define S. Lovely cases.
I am not the fan of Corsair cases, because with everyone you have to make some compromise. Phanteks has stunning looks but air flow was not on their list when they were designing them. That is from the top of my head that i can mention, without breaking the 200 euro line.

NeverBackDown & Avet - Great recommendation, after some light reading \ reviews... I think you may have found a mutual fanboy! Best airflow \ case design thus far.. not 100% there on looks, but I'm sure I'll grow to like the aesthetics in time ;)

Having a second review of the ram 3000\3200mhz - the latter doesn't appear on the B350 PLUS QVL, which is a little puzzling... and so leads me into choosing the 3000mhz by default.

Once again, thanks for pointing me in the right directions with what needed reviewing and obviously Fractal, which I'd not heard of before!

Fractal has that Scandinavian minimalistic design. Simple but stylish. Like IKEA and Volvo. :D

Looking forward to see your build on forums. :)

Glad we could help, dude! The Fractal Define C is a great case, I'm sure you'll love it!
Can't wait to see your build finished :)

How have you not heard of Fractal before?! Lol^_^

As for the memory, I'd still get 3200mhz if you can afford it. Once memory compatibility improves (it will over time) you'll get a little bit more performance:)

Not to brag.. but current system BIOS Date 2012/12/13 01:54 - bought 28/02/2013, built, and badly cabled... :D
(The last time I looked at PC's)

'As for the memory, I'd still get 3200mhz if you can afford it.' I can afford it :) .. I just felt a little dubious not seeing on the QVL, and having it not recognize the ram wouldn't be the greatest feeling... lol.

~hides back under rock, feeling the shame~
(Throw me at a DMX-4 \ VMAX \ VNXe and I'd be all over that ;) )

I suppose so, the only few articles I've seen for CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 (corsair 3200mhz):

From 24 days ago - "with the recent 0606 update my corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 v4.24 can run 2666 cl14-13-13-13-26"
3 days ago - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB VERSION 5.39 [16-18-18-36 @ 1.35v] 8Gb IC Samsung B-Die
(... reading on)

The above lines had been written about half an hour ago! - so just ignore my meager ramblings :D (unfortunately I get quite stuck into research & prep)

I'll bow to your expertise - as you've probably already read articles that I'm catching up on - and conclude that the 3200mhz is compatible after the 0606 & 0609 updates! :)

Huzzah, and there was much rejoicing (yaaaaaaaay)

Yes - I know, what am I doing back...

I've done a bit of a rebuild on my parts! https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/c7Wsf8

Gone for the MSI instead of ASUS Mobo..(my current MSI 990FXA-GD65 (MS-7640) has served me well for 4+ years)

The original PSU was 180mm... case was 175mm. AX760's a bit more than I'd like to pay, but it's the only corsair at ~750w that will fit in the Fractal Define C. (that I can find - and keeps me in my original cost brackets).

Hopefully that's me done for now! and see you in the Rig gallery.
