High Temps For i7

Hi all,

I have an i7 that is producing some strangely high temps for the kit that is cooling it.

I am running an EK Supreme plexi with 1/2" XPSC tubing, 120mm Black ice and Swiftech 240mm and a ddc with XPSC res.

oh, and i'm using distilled water with silver coil.

My temps are idling at 41-43oC. It's Clocked to 4.2GHz Stable.

I think this is unusually high for the kit that is cooling it.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks ppl!

Have you tried reseating the Waterblock? Could be a contact issue... Could try reapplying the TIM..

I reseated my ek wb and the temps are still too high. I set my bios to defaults so no oc :( back to 2.6GHz.

The temps are still @ 45oC on core1 44oC on Core2 42 on Core3 and 41oC on Core4. All outputted from OCCT.

I also cleaned my wb internally but this had no effect.

I'm thinking of getting a new wb but i'm not sure anymore what wb would have the greatest effect on my temps. Any suggestions welcome :)

I really want my 4.2GHz Back :'(

can you post up a pic of the case internals please matey? What temps were you getting on air?

I haven't had it on air. I bought an OEM (save some pennies :) )

Just wondering if its a hot chip / dodgy thermo sensor. Alot of the OEMs that can be brough from not reputable sellers are ones that didnt make the greade for proper retail.

Guess theirs no solution for it then :( jus have to bare with stock clocks :'( Bit of a disappointment.

Thanks for your help though m8.

try coretemp and realtemp to see if you get the same values.

it can tell you if your on die sensor readings are off too.

As you can see, they both have the same sort of output. I am completely out of ideas as to what is causing this. I ran out of patience and knocked it back up to 4GHz. my loop should be able to cope with my i7, my 5850 idles @ 28oC and thats on a very similar loop.

I am completely stumped

maybe need to flush your rad, clean your blocks internals and check for kinks.

the jet plate is prone to blockage, since you have a supreme.

anything impeding flow.

no harm in cleaning anyway.

also, check wether its seated properly, the mounting plate maybe sitting on a cap or something, even though they rarely do get in the way..

Hows your rad getting clean cool air? Is the 120.2 sucking warm air off the HDD's you have there??

Looks to me as your not getting enough clean air into the Rad mate.

id say its about right tbh. the fact that you got 2 thin rads to start with cooling a oc i7 and a 5850... and with only push or pull fans . and teh factor that the double is suckign air off some hdd's . i mean my 4870x2 runs at 30 idle and 45 load on a Tripple thermochill(king of cooling :P ) with push and pull fans. ant really see you gettign V low temps with a 5850 and a i7 with quite high clocks on rather down market rads.

What is your ambient air temp?

Clean your rig from all dust

I would get a better radiator but that's just me.

What coolant and how old is it?

Are you sure there is no air in the loop?

If I was you i would:

Take the loop apart & clean evey thing with white vinegar and warm water

reassemble the loop with distilled water & PT nuke PHN
