High cpu temp on stock cooling 4790k

Hello. I have 4790K with stock cooler. During Black Ops 3 my cpu temps are 90-100c. I think i mounted good cooler.
Is this normal for stock cooler or not? Black Ops 3 only giving that high temps.

Cpu is on turbo clock 4 ghz - 4,2 ghz. And on 4,2 ghz i have 90c+ sometimes it will spike to 100c during each places in game.

Everyone will tell you the same thing don't use the stock coolers fella get an aftermarket

sounds pretty hot even for stock.. do you have correct contact and thermal paste?

Its probably not mounted correctly or the fan isn't getting the signal to increase in speed. Is the computer loud?

Cpu is loud yes. I think i mounted cooler ok. Paste is applied on stock to cooler.
Only Black Ops 3 giving me that temperatures.
When cpu is on 4,2ghz on auto, then i have 90+C sometimes it will spike to 100C.

Im sure everyone here will tell you to get a better cooler first thing its not that expensive and its a massive difference.

we can go through some stupid stuff like did you peel plastic off of cooler before applying etc. but its 99% the fault of stock cooler that isn't adequate to run 4790k especially at 4hgz+ oc

Cooler is seated properly. Because on other games i have temps 80C+. Weird because only Black Ops 3 giving me 90C+ ( sometimes 100C ,depending on load cpu ).And i dont know why.

If you are over clocked then yes you need a better heat sink. if its just the turbo boost then the stock solution should be barely adequate.
(i would be trying to keep the temps at about 75-78c whilst heavy gaming. anything higher than that and i would not be happy.)

You mentioned it is set to Auto, what voltage is being applied to the CPU?

In Prime 95 my temps are 95-100C. On other games temps are 80-90C.
Black Ops 3 giving me from 85-100C ( depending on load ). Is this normal for stock cooler temps?

Do not overclock with a stock cooler. That's just asking for your CPU to become unstable over time.

I dont oc. clock on auto is giving 4,2ghz


Playing Crysis 3 and Black Ops 3 giving me 90c-100C. But playing Dying Light temps are 77-81C max.
Is this something wrong with cooler?

dying light temps are borderline acceptable.. But i would get a new cpu cooler.

So, to sum up: Games or benchmarks that push your CPU hard make it get hotter, games that don't, don't.

Either way, at stock speeds and voltages the stock cooler should not let the CPU get that hot. Take it off, clean it and the CPU thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, apply good thermal paste correctly (grain of rice size, no spreading) and correctly remount the cooler.

Then go into the BIOS, change your CPU voltage to manual and start undervolting your CPU. "Auto" voltage in BIOS is going to be too high. Start with around 1.1v, then run stability tests like Prime95. Keep on lowering the voltage incrementally until it fails the benchmarks, then set it back to the lowest known stable voltage.

Both of these things will drop your temperatures down significantly.

i thnk the threshold for the 4790K is 105C.

Now as others have said, dont overclock with a stock cooler. I have been using a 4790k stock cooler recently while I build my other pc and my temps with stock clocks are 75C, so your temps sound normal considering the OC.

Either, reset your CPU to stock clocks, or invest in a better cooler. It really isn't healthy to run at that temp even if the CPU can handle it.

you can play at 90C but its not ideal. Afterall, the 290X AMD GPU used to ramp up to that temperature without even trying from what I understand. its manageable but far from beneficial. Unless you dont have any heating in your room

My cpu already is on stock auto settings. It is just clocked automatically to 4,2 ghz. I dont OC manually. Its automatic. And i am getting with auto settings 90-100C in demanding games.

How is the air flow in your case. Some pictures would help alot. Have you played around with the cpu fan profile in the bios and set it too low?

I have the same issue, the stock cooler is just plain s*** and not fit for purpose since it can't even handle the 4790K clocks.

To keep my CPU from exceeding 60C in games I've down clocked my 4790K to 3.1 GHz @ 0.8v until I get around to watercooling it next week.

Get yourself an aftermarket cooler, even a cheaper one like the freezer pro 7 would make a huge difference as long as you don't plan on overclocking.
