Hey,

I met Tom at the CCL stand at i40 and got some great advice for my build which I think really paid off
biggrin.gif

Well I got the parts,

Core i7 930

GA-x58a-ud3r

Palit 768mb

Corsair 650w PSU

Noctua NH-D14

Kingston HyperX Blu - 4GB

I did however decide to get the Antec DF-35 because it looked kewl

Everything is in the case and working, I tried some overclocking this morning, got it to 3.2GhZ, but the processor was reporting to be at 96degrees whilst Prime95 was running and am wondering what i'm doing wrong.

Any advice would be great

Cheers.

Hey Slam! I was at CCL this week, they told me you bought the rig I spec'd you. I think you will be VERY happy with it for what it cost you

Temp wise that will be linked to volts. OR you have mounted the cooler wrong/too much paste/too little as that cooler is epic.

Hey
biggrin.gif

I think the it's mounted fine as temps at idle are sitting about the 40s. Ditto paste.

Must be the volts then, do I need to turn them up/down?

@ snw It is a 460 yes fella.... gwon do it you know ya want to!

Go the the bios and load optimised defaults, turn off C1E and speedstep (cpu config) save and reboot.

See what yout idles and loads are now as tbh it sounds like its massively overvolting as Im thinking you are clocking with it set to auto?

Thanks for the welcome

I'm clocking in between 35-40 idle and about 70 under P95 load using the default minus D1E etc.

If thats at stock mate with the fans at 12v you havnt mounted it properly or youve not used enough or too much paste.

At stock it shouldnt go much above 50c

Woops.

Wow, I feel like a noob.

When I built it, it wasn't booting for some reason so I took it apart and started again. Forgetting to add the plastic spacer things under the cooler.

So I just cleaned the paste off, re-applied, set it back up and it is working at a cool 52c under p55

Oh and the boot problem was me putting the RAM in the blue slots instead of the white ones :<

Well I knew something was going to happen, and it did

The hard drive was a bit strange from when I started using it. But the other day it gave up and crapped out

I sent it back to CCL to be repaired/replaced and should get up and running again soon.

Meanwhile i'm back on the iMac, with my beautiful PC, with bad cable management, sitting on my desk looking bored

You should take some pictures of your new PC, I am always one for pictures
biggrin.gif
.

We can also help you with your cable management, to get it right, it takes me like three hours PER build.

Pretty ridiculous, I know, but it is an art worth mastering! You will enjoy your PC that much more once it is nice and tidy

.

Oh, and of course, welcome to OC3D!

Here be it:

I will upload more, but imageshack is being a royal bitch on mac.

Wow, that is a truely bad camera on the Nokia e72.

Whoa that is bad cable management. All you need to do is plan it out dude but tbh you shouldnt have got that Antec

I have to agree with Tom on that one. I was contemplating getting one of the new dark fleet antec cases but when i saw Tom's review on the PC-K62 and the fact that is could be had here in AUS for $159 that was biggest bang for the buck. Best investment I have made Tom, many thanks BTW.
