howz it going guys? my name is rick .... im a tradie living in australia.... im trying to get away from the ps ps2 ps3 crowd and decided to build my pc for gaming as well as browsing and business work.

so here my dilemma, i am running intel core duo 2.8MHZ wich i want to overclock so that i can run crysis and F.e.a.r2.

now i got myself a CPU cooler to install and then i got myself another one.... and im stuck here with 2 brand new CPU coolers and i dnot know whick to install.

the 1st i bought was the Duorb from thermal take.... it looks like a decent peice of eye candy with the dual led fans and its copper/aliminium chasis. but the duorb looks like it is going to hit the northbrige on my gigabyte EG41MFT-US2H

then the second option is the big typ 120 VX with fan speed control. ok so this one isnt going to look as flashy in my pc case once i chop out a new window in it but it doesnt hit the northbrige heatsink.

AWWWWWW Decissions decissions... please help!

im also trying to work out a little cable management on my Huntkey midi tower... BTW has anyone Ever heard of huntkey?!?!?!

thanks buds chat later!!!!

your mate

Rick

neither sell em both and get one of these

Xigmatek Dark Knight

Thermalright TRUE

Sythe Mugen 2

all 3 are flashy and cool with awsomness lol

I'd have to agree sorry, a Thermalright Ultra 120 (TRUE) can be got second hand quite cheap now really and is still up there in the top 10 coolers.

If you want to do a bit of gaming, its more down to your graphics card rather than the CPU (but overclocking the CPU will still help out). What graphics card are you currently using? Crysis still needs quite a top end card to run at maximum settings.

As for the case, a quick google search brings up pictures of the outsides of the case's but I cant find any photos of the insides. Can you get a photo for us? Would make advising you a bit easier :)

If you think that the duorb will hit your chipset cooler, leave it and sell it on. As with the thermaltake big typhoon vx should be fine for your needs. The difference in temperature between it and the best air cooler will be a maximum of 5c. This will make no difference to your pc's useability.

As you want to use your pc for gaming, the intel chip you have got is great, gaming only uses two cores generally as many games don't support more than 2. Also depending on your budget the graphics card is the main component to take into consideration. I would suggest the HD5770 as a gtreat mid range card, or for a cheaper price the HD4870's are very good value for money.

Hope this helps.

well going on your advice both coolers are up for sale at the Bay!

im still looking for a GPU but the more i look the more confused im getting.

did manage however to cut that window and do a little cable management on my huntkey tower!

i didnt take some before pics :(

but there are some after pics. its my 1st go at this sort of stuff so b kind! :P

I must say that cable management is very neat. I like the window mod aswell, good shape and size. Generic psu's are FINE, I used one on my first pc build and had no problems with it. :)

Definately check the distance between your cpu and the cases side panel. As TRUE's etc are very tall.

Keep up the good work.

wow i wasnt aware of the PSU issues, so if im going to O/C then i really would need to change my power supply to something more mainstream yea?

the depth of my case is 170mm from the motherboard to the innermost part of the case so allowing, say 10mm clearance for the CPU im left with 160mm.. is TRUE really that big!

ill have to google the dimensions

i think i have found a decent GPU what do you guys think of:

ATI RADEON

HIS HD4870 IceQ4+ Turbo Factory O/Clocked , im told this will play crysis at 30FPS on a 17" would that be the same case for a 1080p 24incher?

thank you all for the comments BTW! .much appreciated :D

yeah i think the true is a tad too big for my case!

with the GPU do you mean XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB HDMI ?

ill have to read up on it! .. thank god i got time off work for the time being LOL

i got a lot to learn

thanks again stepster :)

Gigabyte Radeon HD5750 1GB PCI Express

what about this GPU?? i can get it for a little more than the radeon 4890

have a look @ all the 4890's mate and see what one fits your needs better, no probs with the help ur welcome, give me some rep :) ha ha

i wouldnt buy that card mate its no where near as capable as the 4890, yes its dx11 but its not even going to be able to cope with good dx11 games when they eventually hit

yeah i think thats the best bet and the 5750 is on performance par with the 4850 so that cards 2 tiers up from it performance wise and its cheaper! did you have a budget in mind for the card? cause u could go for a better card

What is the wattage rating of your psu? That is the only thing that matters really. Do you have enough budget to spend an additional £50 on a psu?

Also if you don't the HD5770 using a 40nm chip that uses much less power than the HD4870 or HD4890.

ATI make gpu chips, and graphic card manufacturers make the actual cards and box them and do the marketing etc. Generally a hd4890 from XFX is exactly the same as an hd4890 from sapphire or Asus.

Imo you will be fine with your current psu if you get a HD5770 and it will be cheaper on your energy bills and additionally had DX11 support.

The recommended psu for a hd5770 is 550w, but 400w will be fine if its a good quality psu.

but remember it might be a dx11 card but its gonna stink with proper dx11 games :)
