Help with upcoming system.

Hey guys, I'll soon be upgrading my system to allow for nvidia surround capabilities. Originally i was intending to get a GTX 680 4GB to run the 3 primary monitors used for said surround, and getting something small like a GTX 610 to run a 4th monitor and a TV. Mainly the second card because while i understand a 6 series or above can run up to 4 monitors( 3 in surround and 4th as desktop only) It would leave me unable to connect my TV without using a splitter. (I dont have on board graphics)

It was my understanding that using for running a setup similar, the two cards would have to be of the same generation, i.e. 6 series or is at least recommended to help against driver and compatibility issues.

But since the hopefully soon release of the 780, I was wondering if i would still be able to install a weaker card such as the 610 to drive the 4th and tv, while the 780 concentrates on the 3 monitors in suround. Would there be any compatibly issues and would I have to wait for a lower end 7 series card to be released.

And before anyone asks, yes, i have 2 PCI Express slots. SLI capable board.

You can do 4 from a single card (3+1)... No idea what it actually means by the plus 1 bit though. I know you can't span games or something across all 4, but other than that, I don't really know the difference.
I run 3 of my 670. Obviously to run 4 you'd need to be using the display port with the correct adapter.

I am thinking that for this situation, you may be better off going AMD, as you can run up to 6 monitors on a single 7970 that way.
 
3 +1 means that three will be one array (combined) and the fourth (+1) is an accessory screen not part of the merged array.

It means you can leave temp monitors and so on open (why they call it accessory)
 
Sorry guys, Must not have been clear. i already know i can run 3+1 on the single card, but with the addition of the TV, that brings the total to 5 monitors. I was considering AMD, but i prefere Nvidia, so i'd rather go nvidia if i can.

I would of thought that single you can run a card with max monitors, and use an on board to run more, there shouldn't be issues with using a 610 along side a 780, i just wanted to make sure before buying a 610.

The reason why i was saying 3 monitors on the 780 and 2 on the 610 was because thats how i intend to have it setup, just so the 780 only ever has to worry about gaming, and not too many screens with different resolutions with only some being used for gaming. Imagine it would help avoid any driver issues with having the 2 cards aswell.
 
4monitors and 1 tv? You NEED AMD for this. Besides Nvidia cards will struggle with their smaller memory bandwidth. Though for next gen Gpus i am not sure.

I don't think you can run a different gpu just for an accessory monitor. All same cards unless one is doing physx
 
why cant ya just put the accessory screen on the on-board? then you dont need a second gpu at all

mate why would you want to bother with driver issues with two different cards if you could just get an AMD card, i take that you are mostly into new games so a 7970GHz will fully please you, the drivers are very good for new games. AMD has come a long way lately, even though a 780 should wreck the 7970GHz.
 
All speculation as usual but assuming from what I have read, everything card will move up a tier. A 660ti becoming a 670 and a 670 becoming a 680 with a few tweaks and a 680 becoming a Titan that's cut down. Pretty sad that the next tech is not much of a performance increase per say.

I heard the 780 would be between 500$ and 600$, that`s a good bit cheaper than the titan. And it is really the only improvement, it is nice to see the 780 being somewhat ahead of the 770.

Then add your gouge to the price and you will get $800.

Titan was supposed to release here in the UK for £800. It was £1000.

Buying any technology at release is financial suicide. Always was, always will be.
 
A cheap 7950 maybe, two 7970s are still a lot more than $599.

And this of course presumes that AMDs driver fix works, not to mention the other problems inherent to a multi GPU solution.

Nvidia aren't exactly having problems selling Titans, so I'm pretty sure they could flog some $599 780s with little bother.
 
Amd drivers are great. Never had a problem(unless i did so on purpose).

You are right though, i doubke checked and two 7970s are still more expensive.
