hey guys, in a lecture on my mobile and im bored. I want to overclock my cpu but have never done it before. I have a q8200, xfx 780i motherboard, gainward gtx 260 and 4gb ram. Psu is a thermaltake 750 watt toughpower. What do i need to do?

The best thing to do is read up on it as there is a load of wiked tuts out there.

Basicly you need to work out the limit of each compnent. The ram, motherboard and cpu

the motherboard will always get overclocked, so test this first. (This step isnt really needed but is gd as you know when to alter the htt multiplier).

Underclock the ram and cpu by lowering the multis for them.

Then keep upping the mhz. if you hit a wall lower the multi. Try again. there isnt much point in fiddleing with the volts as u'll only get 1-3 extra mhz out of it.

Next put the cpu back to stock. Two choices. Up the volts to the max it can take and then keep upping the mhz keeping an eye on temps. stress it with orthos. STOP if it gets too hot. If you hit a wall do u need to lower the htt link? If not then you have found the limit of the chip.

Next the same with the ram. as above. Add +.1v to it then go. you can add more but cnt be certian.

If you hit a wall tighten the timings - you have to decide. mhz/timings....

Then workout how to put them together....
