Help with microphone?

My girlfriend bought me a microphone , nothing fancy ...
any way when plugged up it doesn't pick up my voice unless its directly in front of my mouth to the point I may as well swallow it and even than it still struggles,
Im running windows 10 and have done all the usual set up microphone ect ect and no luck

Am I missing something....Im using it on haswell h81 board
its a Neewer NW-700 Microphone

BTW I know nothing about audio...

Did you increase the boost level in the "levles" tab under it's properties? I had to do this on a different mic I have otherwise I sounded very quiet.

There should be a mic boost option also under recording devices/properties etc.

As with most Condenser Microphones, they are designed to be used with a Phantom power supply using XLR cables. Although the will work with USB or 3.5 mm, the power requirements for the way they work just are not there.

Unfortunately it is very rare for adverts for such mics to ever give you the full story.

I have done the mic boost as well as messed with he sound levels ,
Looks like ti will have to be phantom power supply route..thanks for the help guys
