Hello.
This is my first post here after a long time of watching TTL on Youtube. I am in some need of help.
My boyfriends brother just bought a new pc in parts and I've been helping them put it together. There has been a lot of trouble with the parts and the guy who ordered it got it all wrong. After a lot of returning and delivering of parts they finally got it right. Or so they thought. Nothing worked. After a while, as the proud boys they were they asked the girl for help. In the spur of the moment before we figured out what was wrong with it all we had managed to order a new MOBO because we figured it was with the Gigabyte MOBO the problem was(we thought it was defect). This time a ASUS SABERTOOTH X58. Finally I figured out that they actually had bought some Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 4GB REG/ECC RAM for a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R. This did not work, I wonder why.
Everything else works fine. We have tested both the PSU, the Graphics Card and the processor on another computer so we were almost sure it was the MOBO since we read alot about other people with the same problem with the Gigabyte. It boots, it just wont POST.
So now we have two motherboards and some EEC/REG ram and I really dont know what to do. Is this going to work? Is there something we can do to make it work? Because they live quite far away from everything and the mail order pc store is quite slow.
So to sum up.
Can you use EEC/REG RAM on the Gigabyte or the Asus Sabertooth? Or should we just order some "proper" RAM for the job and deliver the Sabertooth or the Gigabyte before it's too late? And which of the boards should we stick with in the end?
Hoping for some good suggestions!
inb4 noobs and all that. We are pretty much first time builders with too much enthusiasm and spirits.
Thanks!
