Hey guys, got my parts in, installed eveything fired it up but it will not display anything on a monitor or tv. I used hdmi and a vga connection. My last motherboard was a asus x58 sabertooth that claimed that it could not detect ram or cpu but would detect the graphics card even without one installed so that was returned. My new mobo is a rampage ze formula. The formula does not display any component errors via the motherboard leds but I have the same problem with no output to my display. Any ideas?

I7 950

4 gigs ripjaw 1600

Rampage 3 formula

Msi gtx 460

has it got onboard VGA?

i suspect its the GPU,that would be my first place to look

is the rig turning on fans spinning HDD noise etc etc

Firstly how do you know the mobo detected the GPU if it didnt detect the cpu or ram? It would just not of worked?

With no output it makes me think of cpu or ram tbh, make sure you connect everything correctly, also why do you have dual channel ram on a tripple channel mobo?

Also make sure your ram is fitted to slots 2-4-6 (red) if you have it in 1-3-5 (black) it wont boot

I suspect that may have been your issue all along.

Negative on the onboard VGA, I have a SSD so no noise there, all the fans come on, the fans plugged into the CPU fan header work fine.

I tried another graphics card from an OLD computer in the slot and it still had the same issue. I have no good excuse for having dual channel ram on a triple channel board

. I had the ram set up in the red slots all along.

Any other ideas? Possible to have ANOTHER bad motherboard?

The best idea I have now is to power up my old PC and test the MSI card to see if thats the issue.

Dose the computer power on at all, If the same thing was happening to a previous motherboard could it be your power supply?

I would test your RAM and video card in another PC so you can rule them out.

Everything powers on, the old mobo would power on but the on board error LED lights would show CPU and RAM but not graphics, even when I removed the graphics card.

My old PC (2006ish?) will be a test bed, I dont know if the RAM will work on that though. Graphics should be testable, I'll have to run over to one of my friend's house's and beg to install my parts into their computers haha.

I'm sure one your friends will let you so long as you return he favor one day.

Dose your PC beep at all when its turning on?

Unfortunately there is no onboard speaker (if there is, then it certainly isnt beeping) and I need to find my speaker that came with the case. I had to run for classes so I didnt get a chance to look for it.

Looking at a photo of the mobo I can't see a speaker on it so try dig one up,

Lots of short beeps in a row will normally mean there is a RAM issue, If you get one beep on start up normally means there is no immediate errors when starting up, If it has a different tone beeps in a row (I cant remember if there long or short) in the past for me its been the power to the video card wasn't plugged in right or at all.

Besides that all I can really suggest is trying to test each part in a different PC, Just hope it don't come down to testing your CPU because friends can be funny about pulling there CPU off

But some retailers have test beds set up for that, providing you didn't buy it online (probably did) but if not you could try take it in and test it, if it came down the testing the CPU any way.

And yeah your 2006 PC is probably DDR2 and not DDR3 so you probably cant test that your self.

Your power supply still might be the issue not supplying the correct power some where.

The motherboard will support a dual channel kit but as Tom said make sure there in the red and as you have a dual channel kit make sure its in slot A1 and B1

EDIT: On some Mobo's i've heard people say this dosen't matter if it was b1 and c1 but on my mates P6T Deluxe V2 it did and had to be in A1 and B1

Thats incorrect - its always 2-4-6 you can only use 1-3-5 when 2-4-6 are already filled

On the motherboard's slots 2-4-6 are labeled as A1, B1 And C1

The the slots would be from the CPU

| A2 | A1 | B2 | B1 | C2 | C1 |

is it possible I have them in the wrong red slots? I mean if I put the ram in slots 4 and 6 vs 2 and 4 would that cause an issue?

Alright, got home, booted up the board with the memory in the correct slots and still nothing, tried it with one stick (tried both sticks) and nothing.

I removed the RAM and VGA card and the error lights on the board do not light up - another bad board?

I know its not the VGA card since I tested my 460 in another PC and it displays fine.

Thoughts?

Its rather embarssing to admit but I figure you all should have a chuckle at my expense. CPU power wasn't plugged in. Very silly misstake but it is working and running like a champ. My Noctua gave me a nice bite on my knuckle last night for being so airheaded!
