Hey guys , i have a samsung n145 plus netbook with 2gb ram and 250gb hdd that i have not used for a few months so i decided to reboot it and sell but when i slide the power switch, only the blue power light comes on, the hard drive spins but screen stays blank. I changed out the ram and the hdd but nothing still same problem. What could it be?

most laptops can switch between built in screen and external screen. make sure you try switching the screen output. On my laptop it is F8, not sure if yours will be the same. I had the same problem on my Toshiba laptop a while back.

Power or screen?

It does power on, hdd spins up but then stops. Screen stays blank

SOLVED!!! :D

At work, where there were laptops similar to this one and had a password on the bios, in order to reset it, there were two contact near the ram that need to short out in order to reset CMOS so i just tried, thinking 'you never know' and it worked, so happy now :D

Good to hear :)

ok now I've got the same issue again, been at it all day. I opened the laptop up and checked screen wire etc, its not damaged so really confused :(

Did you ever find a solution to this man? I have the exact same problem

In the end i had to change the ram to get mine to work. I come across about 10 of these at work during Easter holidays where the screen is blank although the power light comes on.

I then got a box of 30 ram sticks and changed the ram out. Those 10 laptops turned of fine and have been working ever since.

The shorting method i explained in a few posts back is for when you have a bios password and you have forgotten it. The CMOS battery in these laptops are not user swapable without taking the whole motherboard out which means dismantling the whole netbook.

thank you very much for your answer man, then I guess I have to change the RAM. I'll post back when I do.

cheers

Hello there dipzy,

I believe that my flatmate has the exact same issue with her Samsung NP-145.

Basically she left her computer on, the battery drained (and the laptop possibly went into hibernate) and then went away for 1 month.

She came back from holidays, tried to switch on, the blue "power" light stays on, the blue "hard drive" light also comes only but goes off after say 2 seconds. Nothing at all on the screen...

Tried connecting via VGA to a monitor in case the screen has gone but nothing either.

This is when I started Google'ing and came across this thread. Also found a similar solution on another forum:

http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-1804584/samsung-n145-netbook-problem.html

So, now for my issue. I can't seem to work out which two contacts I need to short out with a screwdriver. Tried a few different things but no joy...

You wouldn't possibly be so kind as to take a picture and mark out the above would you?

Kind regards,
Damien.

We don't normally allow bumping an extremely old thread like this, but I figured this is worth a shot for you. I'd be surprised if the OP still has this netbook, but maybe they can help nonetheless.
