He must work for logitech... haha

well i dont really care as long as i get the most performance / lastability (socket is going to be around longer) and the best for my money

Currently it appears as though the AM2 socket will be around for a while. I have not heard much about the longevity of Intel's 775.

There are some price drops coming by the end of July which may help you to save some money.

i have been planning a bit...

am2 x2 3800

asus m2n32 deluxe

xfx 7900gt xt edition

dunno wot make but...2gb ram (should be getting a bundle off overclockers.co.uk (mobo, cpu, ram))

i already have the case coming

no idea on psu

no idea on hdd

just need a bit of help tweaking my choices for max performance :p

Thats a fairly good setup. If you get if from OCUK most of there bundle deals carry Corsair RAM if my memory serves me.

PSU wise, depending on how much you have left: Lots of £, PCp&C, not much £, hiper Type-R 580modular, even less, Hiper Type-R 480.

Hdd wise i would say either sumsung spinpoints or hatatchi(sp?) deskstars. But i an't looked at hdds in a long time...

I wouldnt have said AM2 for longevity tbh, its more of a transition socket, like 754 was. either go for a nice 939 setup, wait for AMD to fight back against conroe or save some more and go conroe :yumyum: your cpu choice is good, you wont be disapointed with it. No idea about the motherboard but you cant go wrong with a DFi lol. GPU should be nice, little pricey though? For the PSU check out our reviews section, I would say you'll need around 480W+. As for HDD, what are you looking for? silence or speed or both?

Also i should point you towards our sponsors SpecialTech as all OC3D members get 10% discount on all purchases

i know about the price cuts etc. but can u write me out a full list of components including model and price for all the things i need. i can probably be leaneant with my budget if it means a nice increase in performance

my main choice would be performance but a lil' bit of silence cant do any harm can it?

X2 3800+ ~£200

Abit KN8 Ultra ~£60

2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair TwinX PC4000 ~£160

256Mb XFX 7900GT Extreme Ed ~£210

160 Gb Samsung SpinPoint ~£40

530W Tagan 2Force T530 ~£70

Total (inc. shipping) ~730

Prices all form scan.

well im definately gonna wait for overclockers.co.uk bundle deals. i think its best to go for am2 as am3 cpus will work in these motherboards apparently

i would prefer a better mainboard such as asus or dfi. im so sick of my sempron / asrock setup lol

Yeah, ABIT mobo's are pretty good nowadays, as well as Epox, though I would personally go for a DFI as well...don't know why really, I think just because they are really known for their good boards for overclockers...

i think we can do more in the way of pricing once the am2 price cut has been put into practise. it would also be nice if we knew wen ocuk would release some damn am2 bundles

Yeah, but I think one should wait a bit before buying an AM2-based system, so prices will drop down a little, though the prices of AM2 mobos/CPUs are not "that" high, when I'm really thinking about it...

I know that if I was going to upgrade soon, I would definitely go for an AM2-based system, but to be honest, I'm pretty satisfied with my current rig, especially from my X2 3800+...:D

is conroe all its hyped up to be? for games i mean...coz there has been a lot of controversy on how the amd system was tested?
