Well i always use the ethernet cable i got from my internet supplier and router but im gonna live in a "basement" so i need a cable long enough from the ground floor to the basement... i dont know what the lenght should be but i think a 50ft cable should be the best... maybe too long but at least im sure it gonna be enough... i have no experience at buying a "long" distance cable at all...and the internet connection im gonna use is from videotron(cable) at 20-30mb/s

PS: Gonna buy them at ncix.com

Here are my choice :

Cables to Go Ethernet Network Cable 50FT RJ45 CAT6 Stranded UTP Blue

ION Cables Ethernet Network Cable 50FT RJ45 CAT5E Stranded UTP

nGear 50FT RJ45 CAT6A STP Shielded Ethernet Network Patch Cable

Cables to Go Ethernet Network Cable 50FT RJ45 CAT6 Stranded UTP Black

Cables to Go Ethernet Network Cable 50FT RJ45 CAT6 Stranded UTP Gray

nGear Ethernet Network Cable 50FT RJ45 Cat5e Stranded UTP

StarTech.com 50 ft Cat5e Blue Molded RJ45 UTP Cat 5e Patch Cable - 50ft Patch Cord

Startech 50 FT CAT 6 Black Molded RJ45 UTP Gigabit CAT6 Patch Cable - 50FT Patch Cord

StarTech.com 50 ft Cat5e Gray Molded RJ45 UTP Cat 5e Patch Cable - 50ft Patch Cord

StarTech.com 75 ft Cat5e Blue Snagless RJ45 UTP Cat 5e Patch Cable - 75ft Patch Cord

Best bet would be to grab a box of Cat6 cable and some connectors and then make the leads up to the exact length you need.

The other added bonus with doing you own leads is that if you bend it to much or knick the cable when putting it in place, then you can just make another one up straight away rather than waiting for delivery of a new one, or driving to get a new one.

The last part to that option as well is that you can grab some faceplates and sockets and mount, Network sockets around the house so you can just use smaller cables and don't have to worry about, running a new cable each time you want to move your pc to other areas around the house or the modem around.

If you don't want to do that then grab the "Startech 50 FT CAT 6 Black Molded RJ45 UTP Gigabit CAT6 Patch Cable - 50FT Patch Cord" as long as it is a guaranteed, 1Gb CAT6 cable and not a CAT5 1Gb cable.

I use cat6 but here is a chart to check your needs.

STP is better than UTP if there will be lots of other cables around the ethernet cable. Helps stop electrical interference.

Cat-5e UTP will do, but personally I'd use Cat-6 STP if I was going through walls or outdoors. Cat-5e STP would work just as well outdoors and through walls but is open to more interference that Cat-6, but I am just fussy, it's all cheap anyway ^_^

EDIT: Here, Cat-6a (open to less interference than Cat-6) and it's shielded, I think it's the 3rd one on your list, cheap too LINK

Have to agree with SuB. If it's not a big hassle to lay the cables, ethernet should always be the prefered/first option.
