What exactly goes wrong when you want to upload an avatar? Can you upload an image file?

To upload an image, copy the Direct Link from the menu on the right in Photobucket, then paste that link between

button for this. As you are a new member, any of your posts containing links, including images, need to be approved by a moderator before they appear

Seems like this is the exact reason that you cannot pick an avatar yet. You should try again when you've reached a minimum post count of 10.
