Apparently my CPU loves the NH-D14 so much, it wont't give up on it.

While cleaning the case, i thought, why not reapply the tim? I couldn't understand why it was so tough to get out, but when i got it out eventually, the CPU was still on the heatsink and it won't get off at all! Even the secure thingy to hold the CPU in place couldn't hold it. I haven't spotted any bent pins so far. And before you ask, i know there is waaay too much tim on it.

So yeah... my question is: how do i get it off?

Never mind. I used a hair dryer to soften the tim and get it off. Now i just need to find some of that old acetone to get the tim of and pray that it still works.

It was damaged when i got it. I didn't wan't to ship it back and wait weeks to get a new one, so my dad found someone who could straighten it out. It works okay and there aren't many scratches in the paint, but it's sometimes noisy because the surfaces aren't completely flat.

yeah some tims can become like super glue lol I had a similar issue with my AMD rig and unfortunately I bent a couple pins when it came out but some diligence and a plastic card got them back to where it would reseat. next time I'd suggest powering it up for a few to soften it then quickly remove it should help also a little wiggle side to side while removing it without upward pressure will assist

Thanks for the advice. Luckily the CPU wasn't damaged. The load temps have dropped about 2 degrees, but the idle temps are like 5 degrees higher. It's probably because i moved my soundcard closer to the CPU.

lmao! I had this happen to my 2.6 Celeron in 2005. Was replacing the heatsink and the old one ripped the CPU straight outta the socket. I used a small screw driver to wedge the chip off.

I couldn't twist it at all. I was afraid i would pull the metal housing off the pcb if i used too much force. Props to the guy who invented the hairdryer
