Headphones - For Guitar Amp

Well, I am becoming an old man in a week or something, so my Mum wants to buy me headphones because my 75w Line6 amp is driving her insane... problem is my area of expertise is not really headphones.

I want a decent pair (£100ish) and preferably Sennheiser as my Sennheiser earphones are just awesome.

Beyond that, I have no idea! Any recommendations? I just want decent audio for late night jamming.

Cheers

Gav

One of these lot

i have used both HD555 and HD595's

HD555 are very good for the money no issues apart from when visiting a freind that lives right next to a radio station

HD595's didnt pick up the radio waves like the fridge or the HD555's

O_o

I'm sat in the same position as gav, so will be keeping an eye out here.

HD555 have seemed the best way to go. Iirc kemps got a pair but I could be wrong...

I have some HD555's and they are fantastic. Sound clarity is superb and the bass is good. I would say that if you want something to really wrench your eardrums out of your ears, the HD555's won't do the trick. If you want something more hefty then the HD600/650's or something else are more likely to be your thing.

If, however, you want headphones that:

* can be driven by anything (including an MP3 player)

* have spot on treble reproduction

* great mid range

* accurate (if not pounding) bass

* fit snug

* are great value for money

Then the HD555's are for you.

Note that all the Senn's linked are open headphones and as such can be heard outside of the cup

I'm currently using a set of Goldring DR-150s atm which are great but I am considering getting a new set of cans along with a headphone amp in the coming months.

The Goldring DR-150s have quite a big following over at Head-Fi. Have a look through this thread if you are interested.

As mentioned already the Senn's are a decent set of cans, but due to the open back design they leak a lot of sound. Goldring's are also open back.

If you would rather have closed cans Audio Technica's are worth looking at. Specifically the ATH-A700.

HD 555's look like the winner then! I will see about ordering them later today, cheers all!

Btw will soon be playing a 5 string bass (:D) through them, but I imagine they can take those sort of lows?

I think Dabs had them for £66, I went for HD 595s in the end ;) Should last me many many years so hopefully a good investment
