Headphones for Rock/Metal

Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a pair of headphones at around £150. I mainly listen to rock and metal music. Some of my favorite bands are Iron Maiden and AC/DC, so you kind of get the idea. I know the AKG 701/2s and the Beyerdynamic DT770/990s are recommended, but one of my friends told me that they would not be suitable for the music that I like to listen to. Might I mention that I also intend to use them for gaming, but I want to focus on the music experience.

Also, I want to buy an AMP/DAC, but I don't know what to get. It needs to be able to power at least 250Ohm headphones at decent volumes. I've heard good things about the FiiO E10k, but is it powerfull enough or is there something better for the price?

As always, thanks for the help guys ;)

Edit: I would prefer closed headphones, because I have a roomate who loves to study

I just went through a similar thread on this. For me i ended up with the DT990s and E10k(make sure its the K version.. its the newest model). I listen to metal/metalcore and everyone says these are perfect for that. But since you want closed then the DT770s will do fine. I don't have mine yet so i can't really give much detail but you won't be dissapointed.

Everyone has assured me the e10k can power the 250ohms version. Few members on the forums have that set up as well and report no issues. Another alternative to the DT lineup is the Audiotechnica ATH M50s. Little more bass heavy than the DTs but from what i have heard not as comfortable. Tend to be a little cheaper though.
