Here are some close taken pics :

- I can tell I have some problems with a few screws and/or holes doesn't mach a water block. GPUs fits perfectly but I think three screws at the end of block near power connectors doesn't mach like it should.

- Can you tell how strong screws need to be tightened?

I am not sure but from my expirience Sapphire doesn't manufacture non reference cards like for example Asus or soem other manufacurers so I can say yes it is a reference design card.

Saphire make lots of non reference cards dude. Can you please post a link up of the exact cvard you have.

and imho you have either not fitted it right (wrong amounts of pads fittedin certain places, some parts may require 2 lots of pads so check the instructions)

or the cards regs are either faulty or mis reading temps. does the back of the card by the vregs feel really hot?

Ok I will check an actual model from the card later today.

So after investigation, I found out there is only two models of Saffire HD4870x2 cards and those are my model and Atomic model with prebuild water cooling.



Sapphire follows original ATI design.

I am sure I have done all with thermal pads according to manual so it is not an issue.

I can't tell about how hot WC block gets at VDDCs but I' ll check it when I install vga back in WC loop again.

dont check the block, touch the back of the card itself, if the vddc's are crazy hot and your are sure its fitted right then your card may be fuggered.

Really do think now that the vddc's are not making proper contact OR the card is foobared.

Just make sure you don't over tight those screws, just enough tight, if your cards ook a bit bend it not going to have a good contact, 4870x2 quite sensitive with bad contact. My card used to over heat and stop working. 35/36 when load with dual 120 rad. Hoope you sort it out soon.

Should the thermal pads be pressed by the water block as much as possible or just a bit? How a correctly mounted water block and pads should look like?

Someone from other forum gave me advice to put a thin layer of thermal paste on the pads for better contact.

From my pics it looks bad because pads are not pressed enough I think.

Some paste on them is a good way for you to actually see if there is proper contact. As long as the card does not warp with the preasure then its fine.
